One of the things that I love about shipping container homes is how they often end up in some truly remarkable locations. This place is a great example of that! I hope you all enjoy the full tour of this stunning off-the-grid home amongst some truly wild New Zealand landscape. Love Bryce & Rasa

It's so nice to see a couple do this who are not in their twenties and who still go out to work in the city. It makes it feel more like anyone could do this rather than like only younger people who work from home.

The millenials didn't discover alternative housing, dear. Today's "older people" are the former hippies who were into alternative housing in the 1960s. Nowadays people of all ages are fed up with high mortgages and wasteful spending. Many retirees are walking away from ridiculous McMansions, jettisoning decades of collectible crap, and finally getting to relax in our old age. P.S. Most of the people in my farm community work in a major city fifty miles away, and have commuted for years. We'd rather see trees when we get home instead of suburbia.

@@lucygray6162 oh sorry, I didnt mean to phrase it as it's only younger people who do this ! I meant that on this channel it is often couples in their 20s who work from home who are shown living in tiny houses. I just meant it's nice to see other people, makes it seem like an option that fits with more than just one way of life.

I found these videos quite by accident and I've been binge watching them for the past 3 days :D I find them delightful and Bryce is the kind of interviewer more interviewers should strive to be. I am experiencing the empty nest syndrome now that my son just moved out, I am realizing how little of my home I actually use. Due to back issues, I don't sleep in my actual bedroom. The California king is too soft for my back, so I find I am sleeping on the couch and have been for roughly a year or so. I think I would do well in a tiny house I just need to de-clutter a lot first :D

Join me. I'm living tiny in a big house. I'm downsizing and trying it on for size. I'm learning what I actually need before hand. For example, two burners are more than enough for me. The gentleman said they don't have a water catch system. Water is trucked in & stored in the holding tank. They may incure occasional fees for solar maintenance, cleaning the wood burning stove exhaust duct & sanitizing the water tank. They said they arranged for land use but didn't mention a lease expense, access road up keep or trash removal.

I wondered about the wood supply myself... I didn't see any trees, so that must be purchased and trucked in for winter (?) -- I was surprised to see a diswasher!

oh, you really don't want a composting toilet. I had one for about 4 years, paid over 2000.00 for it but come to find out unless you put the big containers to catch and mix around and separate the fluids under the house..(over 5000.00 for that) then they just don't work. They eventually smell, get too wet, and it ends up being pretty gross. I have a filter toilet now and I love it. It only cost about $250.00 and the filters are about 75.00 for a box of 3 and each lasts about a week or more for 1 person. I have found a cheaper way to do it though with large camping toilet bags. It's actually less smell than a composting toilet and the $ is a heck of a lot less..

I think the welcome mat and the way the episode was filmed certainly presented that door as the front door, but I think their real front door is the bi-fold door or the double door further down. I'd consider the door out the bathroom to be a "back door," including fish-cleaning sink.

$350k NZD is around $230k USD in case anyone was wondering. Outrageously high for a container home, but that house is outrageously enviable.

I've watched all of your tiny house coverage and I can say THIS couple has the most fantastic view! I am incredibly jealous of what they see everday there. I'e done mountain climbing and the views are always stunning especially sunrise and sunset. Seeing those moments in that house, that must be soooo amazing!!! Thanks for the lovely couple sharing their home to us and your checking it out, Bryce! ❤

Such a beautiful and wonderfully designed, crafted and located tiny! This beautiful couple has masterfully designed it to be their own, by completely imagining it the way they truly value, rather than going with conventions! Thank you Bryce and Rasa for bringing it. Also, missed you guys last week. :)

Beautifully thought out design!! The kitchen and bathroom are spacious for a tiny home, and I absolutely love that the bedroom closet storage is not in the bathroom, not a part of the kitchen as it often is in tiny house on trailers. And the views! Beautiful!

This lady is talking about "downsizing" while sitting in her SECOND HOME. (?) Also, what a wonderful view. I like that they used the containers, which means that in the future it can be removed, leaving almost no trace of it being there. Much better than a normal home with a foundation

They did downsize, and it's their house. What is your issue? Of course they still had the apartment when building, did you think they should be homeless??!

The view and land is everything. Shipping container homes have pros and cons. If they are not built with proper insulation techniques, mold can fester between the interior and exterior walls over time. Great couple.

great layout, especially when you are planning to retire and stay at a home like this, no need to climb and steep cramped stairs. Love this! im 22 planning my tiny home and this has to be one of the best layouts so far. A nice deck and good ceiling space and just enough room.
