Fellow YT realtor and member of Channel Junkies FB group. My parents live in North Port and I fly into the Punta Gorda airport from Nashville several times a year. I'm from Asheville NC and used to fly out of Asheville airport as well. I go to fishermans village pretty much every time I go down there. This is a very well done video! Great job!

Punta Gorda is a nice mixture of old and new. It is easier to get around by bike and especially with a electric bike on bike paths that link the city. There is a cool breeze coming off the water. The sunset views are phenomenal!

I thought he said, Punta Gorda does not have its own beach. I also have to call on the promise of "on the water starting at $175k". I did a quick look on Trulia. You won't like what you can get for that price. You'll be on the side of a highway. I guess I want a video "how expensive is this place if you want your own docked boat at your own property (and no mobile homes)" with some hard numbers. Otherwise, it looks wonderful, and thanks for the video.

The Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area has a large number of restaurant/bars that can cater to most anyone's taste in food and also from very low priced to moderately high. A lot of them have outdoor seating in in a few places indoor, outdoor and on the roof seating. In Punta Gorda there is a height restriction on buildings so there will be no sky scrapers going up here. The airport is paving a new parking area right now so that will help there. The life style is very laid back and casual. There is a beach in Port Charlotte, 4500 Harbor Blvd, which isn't far from the Tamiami Trail South bridge. Punta Gorda itself does not have a beach although some sunbathe or wade int he water at Ponce De Leon Park. The demographics as far as age does bother some people as more than 50% are over 55 but most seniors in this area are quite active. There are also quite a high number of retired military here, enough that we have a military heritage museum and a scaled down but still completely accurate copy of the Vietnam Wall in our Veterans Park. Port Charlotte, North Port, Englewood all tend to attract the younger crowd. I've lived in Punta Gorda now for 6 years and love it, the people are friendly and nowhere near the crime from where I used to live. June to November can be very hot and very humid in the evenings and at night. More just hot during the day. I chose to get dark film for the back and backseat windows of my car and heat reflective film on the front windows of my car soon after I moved here and it makes a very great difference even in the height of summer. It still gets hot in the car but not burn your backside and can't breathe hot as it did even up north in the summer. They spray for mosquitoes (both aerial and by truck) so they are not a major problem here. I haven't had a mosquito bite in the years I have been here. We are also only about 30 minutes from Ft Myers and 50 minutes from Sarasota so if you want big name entertainment or night life it isn't that far away to get to. Ft Myers airport is only about 25 minutes down I-75. Personally I love the area but it is very slow paced here and that isn't for everyone.

@@livinginfortmyersflorida I am so glad I moved here 6 years ago. The town is clean, very pretty and the people are quite friendly and helpful. We are in Punta Gorda as medical travelers and love it here! We are lodging in Historic downtown, two blocks from the water. Love the running biking trail along the water, the tiki bar, and Fishermans Village. We recently took a day trip to Fort Myers though - Coconut Point Mall, and Sanibel Island - and loved the look and feel of Fort Myers. We are considering a travel assignment there next. Ultimately, we are looking to make our home in SW Florida. That said, are there any areas to live in Fort Myers that are like Punta Gorda?

I live here in Punta Gorda. We moved here from Annapolis Maryland area transplanting our boating hobby from there to here. It is a great little town. Live music every day of the week, several festivals during the year, Saturday farmers market, good water front restaurants, palm trees and easy, safe living. Traffic is way down from what we were used to in Maryland and cost of living is very reasonable. Within an hour is Ft Myers and Sarasota. Lots of golfing. Mainly a retirement area. Just to give a heads up, I would not recommend it for young families with little kids. It is a great lifestyle for those who may have just become empty nesters. All of the homes in our area are waterfront and more than half have a private pool. We have our boat on our own lift and a screened in pool. Where are you from?

@@oscarcamejo5870 We looked in these two areas also. Cape Coral is close to Ft Myers and has more stuff, but like many areas, there are good areas and not so good. The nicer areas are along the southern coast, south of Cape Coral Parkway. The interior is a bit sketchy. Some areas are a bit strip mall, tattoo parlor and ammo shopish further north and along the main boulevards like Del Prado. Also, the canals can get VERY deep into the interior and can take over an hour to get out by boat. Avoid those. That is a long, hot, slow cruise. We liked Punta Gorda better. It is smaller, has more charm and doesn't have the sketchy guns and ammo/ pawn shops feel that you find along Cape Coral's Del Prado Blvd. I would check into Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles neighborhoods. My favorite trick while house hunting was to have both a real state website up and Google earth along side, so you can get a better overview of what is around the houses you are looking at. Good Luck!

You are correct if you want a turn key home on the water, but I live here and there are many opportunities to get a fixer upper that only needs cosmetic renovation for far less than your numbers, and not everyone needs to be right on the water. So I would say that you are correct; he underestimated the numbers, but you are talking about the two premium neighborhoods on the water, and turn key prices. There is quite a bit on the market between your two ends of the price spectrum.

The reason that it is pronounced as "Punta" Gorda rather than "Poonta" Gorda, is the definition that goes with the Spanish word "Puta" which is "Bitch." Go here and listen to the two words (punta and puta) being said and you'll see that there are many times when it's hard to distinguish the difference between the two. This is mostly a retirement town where people made money somewhere else and came here with their money (like I did) and bought nice houses on the water and put their boats behind their house. BUT if you are a local, then you should know to head down to Dean's on weekend nights after 9pm . That is where the younger crowd meet up.

I'm not too happy with the new developments going on down on Jones Loop and Burnt Store Rd. I heard they plan to add a 200 unit tiny home community on Burnt Store. 400 sq ft for $130,000 and they call it affordable living. Absurd.

I have often said the bad part of Punta Gorda is that there are no beaches, but the good part of Punat Gorda is that there are no beaches. Meaning that we don't have to battle beach traffic while carrying on our normal lives, but we have water front restaurants, water front properties and beaches not too far away when we are willing to battle beach traffic.

The whole west coast of Florida got tore up with hurricanes this summer in 2020. Also no sand dunes at the gulf. The east coast is better. Our beaches have dunes and our beaches are on the Great Atlantic Ocean. Great surfing. The gulf has no waves. Check out both of the coasts. Not just seniors on the east coast.
@Tlyna1952

No, not all the west coast got hit, haven't had a direct hit since Charley although that could change any season. We sure didn't it here in Punta Gorda and I was out at Ponce De Leon Park during Eta. Had some water come over the sea wall but no real storm surge either. Also it is not just seniors on the west coast although Punta Gorda itself is kind of senior central.

Whoa where are you getting your median pricing? A waterfront home looks more like 500-600k for a junkie old 3/2. You'd have to spend 800k+ if your looking for an updated PGI home. Trust me, you'll get bored in a minute in Punta Gorda. The restaurants are not worth the money. You'll find yourself driving to Ft Myers or Sarasota just to find better shopping. Our local mall in Port Charlotte barely has any major stores left open. If your a young family, there is NOTHING for your child to do, and the school system is awful. I had to pull my kids out and homeschool them 10 years ago just so they would get a decent education. Trust me, save your money and buy in Sarasota instead.

I think it depends on what you are looking for. If you have a family with kids, the I agree with you 100%. I would definitely NOT recommend Punta Gorda. This is primarily a retirement town. BUT if you are an empty nester and want an affordable nice house on the water close to waterfront restaurants, then your options are very limited under $600K. You can buy a nice 3-2 home on the water with a private dock that just needs cosmetic renovations starting in the low to mid 400K range. For some peopke, that is great! My friend just bought a FULLY RENOVATED 3 bedroom -2 bath home on the water with a redone pool, screened in lenai, 2 car garage, on the water with dock for $540K. You just can't get that in Sarasota.
