I have lived in Carmel for 20 years now and moved back after a stint in the Chicago area. When I first read the title of your video I admit I was put off. But I cannot disagree with a thing you have presented here and you fairly represented the facts. It is what it is and I love Carmel. Good video and great shots.

Thanks! Really appreciate that. I love Carmel and wouldn't hesitate to live there. Of course, like every city in the world... it isn't for everyone. I do highlight a large number of positives about all places in my videos but I have to be fair and realistic to be very honest about the Indy metro. Thanks for watching and I value your feedback.

This city has got to be the best in the United States in terms of its design, and being walkable and cyclable. The apartments in the centre look very European. Beautiful city. And getting better all the time by the looks of it.

I live in Carmel and like it overall, but here are other things to consider: 1) It's extremely right wing conservative. Republicans win most races uncontested. People of color stand out and attract attention. 2) It's wildly full of roundabouts. They are truly everywhere and many roads are shut down each spring to build more, exacerbating the traffic problem. 3) The city has $1.5 billion in debt. Yes, that's billion with a 'b'. Our retiring mayor of 28 years routinely spends $250,000 or more on sculptures for things like the center of round-abouts and it appears he will be succeeded by a woman of a similar mindset. 4) It's crowded. Roads like Main Street (131st) and 116th back up daily. And they just keep building more and more homes, condos and apartments. 5) Prices for things like gasoline are higher than just about anywhere in Indiana.

In 1965 I graduated from Carnel High School. I grew up 8n Carmel when it was mostly vacant land. My family would go to what was once Northern Beach for picnics and swimming. Back then we had what was considered a big class of around 200. North Central was the big school on the north side. You used to tell when you left Indy and went into Broad Ripple to Nora and then into Carmel. Unless you were from Carmel years ago, there was a clear distinction when you left one area and entered into the next. Not so anymore. The little town where I rode horses bareback, is no longer. My old stomping grounds are not recognizable. I think if a person wanted a smaller community, Sheridan would be good. That being said, it is growing bigger also. There is very little distinction between Carmel, Westfied, Zionsville and Noblesville. There isn't any distinction between Castleton and Fishers except for the signs that tell you when you leave one city to the next. Change is inevitable. I remember going to Hollyhock Hill and Dodd's Townhouse restaurants for special occasions. From 86th street going south on Meridian, is beautiful with the glorious homes and the enormous stone church, which always looked like a castle to me as a child. Indy has become almost unrecognizable for it not being Monument Circle. Gone are the days of Block's. L S Ayres, and Wassons just to name a few department stores that were either on the Circle or a block away. Those were the days of going downtown at Christmas time to see the wonderful window displays. Quite the treat back then and memories I'll have to cherish. The Carmel I knew and grew up in is long lost except for my memories from the past.

Literally every con you mentioned is a pro for me😅 And Carmel is actually cheap than like Raleigh and in my opinion quality of homes is better in Carmel than in Cary or Raleigh. In under 450s you can get 4,000 sq+ house veryy very easily and in great condition. I came across a property its 2.5 mil with 12k sqft, 2.60 acres land, tennis court, 8 car garage, guest house and pond view in a gated community. Its really the most beautiful home i have seen under 10mil, for this price you'll get a so much less for what you get in Carmel! I like that one High school for everyone, its good for oppertunities and my child will have friend in every corner of the city😅 which is good for socializing

Carmel - from the kitschy figurines on Main Street to the preposterous Palladium ending with the "let's pretend we are a European city" downtown architecture, Carmel is one of the gaudiest cities in the USA. If you care about proper architecture and have semblance of taste, DO NOT move to Carmel. Americans love this kind of fake crap - reminds me of Vegas or Disneyland.

@@LivingInIndianapolis I am honestly looking all over the country at this point. I moved for jobs before, but ended up in places that were not really the greatest for families and didn't have the best school systems. Basically I am looking for anything in the suburbs of Indianapolis or where they have some infrastructure in terms of jobs and universities. Was hoping that you could recommend some neighborhoods there.

Can someone help me understand how diverse is Carmel or even Fishers IN? We live in Brazil but we will be moving to the states next year (both with top jobs in 2 different american companies), I loved all the videos, and both Carmel and Fishers seems to be both great places to raise a family, since we have 2 kids, I really do not want them to suffer any sort of discrimination to come from Latin America. If there is any other suburbs in the midwest that is more diverse (OR if no issues with Carmel/Fisher on that matter), please let me know, it´s going to be really appreciated. If you are young and single, I'd recommend living somewhere else. It isn't a sleepy little place and it has improved a lot but still in general, the bars and nightlife tend to end around 10 or 11pm. Maybe some of the Locals Only bars stay open late, but that isn't exactly where you go to meet people. Even among single folks who are back on the market after a divorce, it seems to be a common complaint that there's no real good way to meet single people here. Heard that Top Golf in Fishers is kind of like the 30-40 hangout for some reason, but probably because it is one of the few non-Locals Only bars open past midnight.

I lived in Carmel from 1990 to 2016. It's a city full of fake people trying to keep up with the Jone's. If you love diversity and culture, it is not the city for you. Carmel wants to be trendy and artistic, but they don't have an organic way of realizing this wish. It's forced and gaudy. You will only enjoy living there if you're white, Christian, republican, and think everyone else ought to be that way too. Any deviance from this will be met with disdain, and sometimes full-on hatred. I graduated from Carmel Highschool in the mid 2000's. As a liberal-minded, non-religious person I was treated as a pariah by not only my peers but also some adults. Carmel is the poster-child for "white-flight" from the 1960's. If you raise a child there, do not expect them to have a particularly realistic world view as they grow up. If you have a child who is LGBTQ+ expect them to suffer regular bullying. If you are black, expect to be pulled over by Carmel PD a LOT! This city is basically like the towns from Footloose and Edward Scissorhands.

Can I say to you before I’ve even watched this video that I can tell you for me what would be the number one reason on my list. NO WOMEN’S SHELTER FOR SBUSED WOMEN AND CHILDREN. They would like to pretend like domestic violence just doesn’t exist here. Well let me inform you it for sin Fishers as well. Hamilton county as a matter of fact ad a whole provides no temporary shelter for its women and children. How’s that make you feel. One million dollars per roundabout. Marsh grocery buildings still set empty. I had to escape to a hotel at the direction of the system then had a judge list living out of a hotel as a reason for removing custody. Status, lies and denial.
