Absolutely fantastic. My grandfather was Jew and married to a Catholic family during WW2, I was born in Malaysia, and my mom from Singapore and Dad is Malaysian. I observed, someone my grandfather's beliefs, practising Catholic. It's difficult. Christ is the messiah. I do respect and observe sabbath and Sundays. No Payot, Yamaka. I will grow, someday when I'm 60.

In my limited experience it normally a title earned and thus given to a select few who have proven the necessary attributes and abilities and have mastered enough learning of Judaism to be entrusted by other Rabbis to both lead Jewish religious communities and to pass on and teach the Torah.

This is a great story. I never knew a conversion was possible or accepted. I am studying about the Torah and Judaism online. My husband and I are trying to live as and practice as much of Judaism as we can but I thought that was as far as I could go. I have often wondered and asked why I was not born Jewish or part of the chosen people of Hashem but it's wonderful to know that there's the possibility of conversion. I am a friend of Israel, I met an Israeli guy in El Salvador at the post office in Santa Ana, the city were I was born. The gov & people of Israel had always helped countries in Central America. Very powerful and touching interview. I watch it with a bit of sadness, because there are things about the observant world that I miss and I feel like I've given up my chance to ever be a part of that again since having gone astray, even though I don't think I'd ever be chassidish, but still. I was born Jewish and grew up secular. Despite that, I became a ba'al teshuva at age 21 and even lived in Israel for a few years, but then ended up going astray in my 30's. I'm at a point in my life now where it would be nearly impossible to ever reintegrate into the observant world. Nevertheless, I try to observe the little that I can. There are those who may say that it should be all or nothing, but I believe that a little of something is better than nothing at all.

At the end of the day, as Avraham Goldstein said in the interview, you should live your life with a frame of mind of wanting to be close to Hashem. This is the point of what it is to be Jewish. The community is also important but is only a means to get to that goal.

I met Rav Goldstein when he was much younger back in the 80's with his wife and a baby in Condado, PR when he was the Mashgiach Temidi at la Concha Hotel, I learned with him for a while, he had great vision to form an orthodox Hasidic kehilah in PR, but much of the establishment Jews were not ready then for such a lifestyle. Today, there are a few of Puertorican that were born Jewish, there are many converts, with some of them living here in Eretz Israel, and many not really Jewish that converted to the reform movement in PR. and there are many christians pretending to be Jewish even to the point of auto calling themselves "Rabbis". But Rav Goldstein is a genuine Jew with a pure Neshamah.

A number of years ago, Temple Beth Shalom in San Juan, Puerto Rico published a cookbook, What's Cooking/Que se cocina en Puerto Rico. Their website posted a recipe for Mojo Isleño Red Snapper (it's no longer there). I made it and was delicious. I bet Avraham Goldstein would love it.

I think a more accurate title would be "the jewish boy who found himself in latin america". It's not so often but there are marrano jews in this place, im son of marranos and the reason I wake up im pretty sure is because both my paternal and maternal lines are sephardic, you need both for the spark to activate, father line alone or mother line alone will not trigger the spark. And there is a manuscript that tells that when all the bnei Anussim return to Israel, the messiah will come.

As a previous 'wanna be' Puerto Rican 🇵🇷I can honestly relate. I have been to the Isla del Emcanto and have had many Borincua friends. (The Enchanting Island). When I became a Believer in the Messiah, I renounced the dictates of men's religious systems. Just as this man, I saw much hypocrisy within my own culture and religion. At 10 years old, I remember being offered hard liquor by my dad and drinking it down. In later years, I recognized that it led me on the wrong path. I found this man's quest noble, pure and so very relatable. What amazes me is that even after decades, his accent remains intact😅❤

I was friends with his children and didn't know at the time how amazing I should feel to have such an amazing neighbor.
