I grew up in Idaho. In 1984 I couldn't wait to see Idaho in my rearview mirror. From 1984 to 2000 I lived in Montana, Utah, Minnesota, New York and Washington. I moved back in 2000 and never intend to leave. I saw the problems and the inefficiencies in all those other places and Idaho is better than all of them. I didn't adopt any of the ideas or attitudes of any of those other states. Whenever I cross the border from a surrounding state and re-enter Idaho, I roll the windows down and smell the freedom.

Being raised in a gun culture is training in and of itself. People here who carry have been raised to respect gun safety. People who move here from out of state who want to participate in the gun culture are also wise enough to get basic training in firearms. Not all, but the vast majority. Center Target in Post Falls is a great place for newcomers to take classes in Firearms 101. Great video, Trent

Post Falls pretty great place to get a camping/hunting knife as well. I'm born Moscow, raised in view of Tetons and North Idaho is my favorite vacation spot of all time. I'm pretty happy people from everywhere else think Colorado is where it's at, keep flooding there everyone who thinks living in the outdoors is their dream. We lived in Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, Japan, South Korea and Kuwait. Idaho is much better than all those locations. Even now.

Loved your video! I live 30 miles up the Joe and my family have been on this ranch for 100 years (I'm 5th generation). All your points were bang on. The locals LOVE Idaho JUST THE WAY IT IS. We do NOT want all these out-of-staters moving here and trying to change us or how we live. Our weather is a little unpredictable but that mostly works in our favor: the first winter out-of-staters live thru generally chases them right back to where they come from. 😀 We are a gun heavy state and mostly that is for hunting and protecting ourselves. Gun safety is taught at a young age. We are taught how to handle guns, the damage they can do and to always be respectful of the power you have in your hands. I live in the sticks, I have wolves, bears, cougars and grizzlies, literally, in my backyard. Things would get a bit dicey if I didn't have a gun to protect myself. As far as using pepper spray to scare off a bears, I have to laugh every time I hear that. All that's gonna do is piss off the bear and I'm gonna be dinner! We have a bumper sticker here that says it all: Welcome to Idaho, now go home!

@@gabefields8012 you actually have to be actively involved in making certain that doesn’t happen or else it will creep in quietly until one day you’re dealing with pride and diversity parades everywhere. Back in the early 90’s I moved from California to southern Oregon and did my best to adapt and fit in. I had to move about 10 years ago because everywhere within a 100 miles of Ashland is going downhill. I found a place where everyone is on the lookout for those change people lol And yet some of them slipped in and started messing up the local economy. They came from places like San Francisco which means they sold their house (or 2) for $1.5 million and up. When they got here they bought homes for $400k-600k and used the remaining $2.5 million to buy rentals for $100k-$250k. The first thing they did was up the rent to california rates which was more than the locals could afford driving them further and further away from where they work. So far that’s been the only major change but it’s enough that its changing things in a negative way. So be on the lookout and be vigilant always. Cheers

We moved from north Idaho a year ago and are SO ready to move back. Haha Apparently, we’ve been talking about it too much around our smartphones because your video was recommended to me out of the blue. But! It was interesting to hear your reasons to NOT move to north Idaho. 😆 Some of them I don’t necessarily agree with, or I think are relative. For example, people being nice in Idaho is totally a thing whether you have a cell phone or not. Once, I spun off the road on some black ice. Every single vehicle passing stopped. And then while I was waiting for my husband to arrive, the person whose property I had spun out in front of (no where near their home; Thank the Lord!) came with a bobcat to help pull me out of the snow bank. We did the same. We always stopped for others, if someone wasn’t already there. (But maybe it depends on exactly where. We lived off hwy 57 going toward Priest Lake.) And this kindness extends to grocery stores and the libraries and the parks…. I think because most people in north Idaho are transplants, and so there’s more intention to build community. The other one that sticks out is the changing weather. Very relative! Haha We’re in Texas currently and I have never known weather to be THIS sporadic. Anyhow, my husband and I listened to a few videos. Enjoy your north Idaho life! We can’t wait to get back in time! 😃

Being a conservative born in a liberal state, my wife and I were looking for a better fit with our views. I have found that the great majority of people are conservative, but I am a little more conservative than most. I have been raised in a house that had firearms. I love the fact that I can carry. I DO understand the responsibility that goes with it. We moved to northern Idaho, in a forest. Our back yard is right up to a mountain. I do have wildlife coming down into my yard. Although I haven’t had to discharge my firearm at any of them(deer, moose and black bear), I do always keep a firearm on my side. We started coming to Idaho in 1990. We bought our first property in 2006. We came up many times in winter, spring, summer and fall so we knew what to expect when we moved here after I retired in 2019. We LOVE it here. The people are great. But the many things that are spoken about in the video are true. I jokingly tell people to not to come to northern Idaho……. We’re full….. If you do, be prepared to put up with snow and cold in the winter and the possibility of forest fire in the summer. We have had them in our area every summer since we’ve been here…..

So basically... 1: Idahoans help those who help themselves 2: Idahoans stand up for what they believe in, no wishy-washy here 3: guns guns guns guns guns 4: Wildlife galore 5: No toothless laws, the law is what it says 6: Climate-wise, it's not southern California (nor in any other way) 7: Your character and actions actually matter 8: It's RURAL 9: When in Rome, do as the Romans 10: No nanny state These are all the same reasons I WANT to go. The tough drug laws is one of the reasons I'm moving back to Idaho. In Washington they legalized pot and now you can be caught with meth or heroin and not even be charged! Naturally crime has skyrocketed in the town I live in. If you like more stealing of your property a loose drug law place is good for that.
@JillKirchner2 жыл бұрын
Drugs destroy everything they touch. Keep the drugs out, Idaho. Stay safe and sane. Drug free, thug free.
@4thlinegooner5822 жыл бұрын
Idaho pays close attention to 2 states, Colorado and California. Colorado became the first state to legalize pot and we watched many 💩heads from California head to Colorado. Look at Denver now, every park is a homeless camp full of dope smokes. Idaho is not interested in that.
@rickschnellmann23162 жыл бұрын
I'm with you, Finley. Not only strict laws, stupid laws, IE the outlawing of medical marijuana. I don't engage in drug use, I rarely even drink alcohol, but I'm a staunch advocate of individual freedom. Idaho thinks they're a last stand state for preserving American values, but they're not, they don't even understand those true American ideals as defined by our founding fathers. Idahoan's "think like us or stay the hell away" mentality flies in the face of American freedoms of self expression. I don't care if people think and live differently in their own lives, as long as they don't try to push their beliefs on others and expect others to live as they do, but that's exactly what Idahoans do according to what Trent has said in several of his videos. Unfortunately, from what I've gathered from Trent's videos the foundational American value of "live and let live" is no where to be found in Idaho. Idahoan's desire to control other's behavior and beliefs is actually the type of Liberal freedom killing bullshit I'm looking to get away from.

I lived in Coeurd'alene and post falls and out in cocoalla for awhile it's a good place the weather in Idaho is like colorado weather bipolar as fuck like explained in the video southern Idaho is warmer than northern Idaho Boise from what I've heard does get hot in the summer like 106 degrees in Coeurd'alene and sand point that's unusual it's not lake havasu city arizona where it's expected for months on end to be in the triple digits there were some above average summer temps when I lived there a few summers the hottest it usually gets in cda is 100 or 101 degrees in July or August if it does reach that high generally it's 99 degrees again in July and August. Comparing the landscape of colorado and Idaho it's the same lots of mountains in both states and plains as well colorado springs is sunnier than cda I've lived in both cities I've lived in Denver as well wildlife in both colorado and Idaho is a big thing I've seen deer and foxes in downtown Denver when I was a kid not all the time but they were around wildlife like deer running in the road in cda or colorado springs isn't uncommon at all the difference is colorado is higher than Idaho in elevation both states are beautiful and have lots of open land as most western states do. Every state has its whacky weather some states are just more bipolar than others. Anywhere in the Rockies from montana to Wyoming to Idaho to colorado to new Mexico the weather is going to be whacky because of elevation changes although not part of the Rockies but arizona has lots of elevation changes as well it's just a giant desert.

It’s really sounds amazing! We are looking for a place to retire closer than an 1.5 hour drive to a Traditional Latin Catholic Church and community. We have grown up with the LDS church here in Utah on my husband’s side of the family until he converted, but we still have several friends and family we love and respect for their morals! It was a great place to raise a family.! I grew up in a small town in a Texas. I like the winter too! We are from a small farm town in Utah that is growing…..fast! The new people from out west do not like the animals of the country. The animals were here for 30+ years before they were! we have been here about that long too. I hope to give back my strengths to the church and community as much as I can! My hubby is a disabled vet, who will be retiring with about 40 years of service! We have grown children with dogs for now. They are all self sufficient and hopefully will be building a small business with dad after my son is done flying from the AF. We would love to be to come visit and see the area again sometime. Time wise he can’t retire for 7 if he can hold out. Maybe look at property to build on later.

Idaho is cool to visit and I got family over there that wanted to get away from scuzzy and snowflake washington.i couldnt live there because there is no concerts or cool conventions and stuff .I'm 45 mins away from Seattle and I'm.away from in woodsy area but I love going through Idaho, Montana and Wyoming on vacations.

"Concerts" haha... what a lame reason. Honest though, I'll give you that haha. I'm in a similar position but I think I'd rather be farther away from the crap that the big cities bring honestly. However, it's nice to be able to get what you need when you need it, that's for sure.

Keep in mind, registered voters don't always tell the whole picture. There may be 4 times the amount of Registered Republicans compared to Democrats, but in Presidential elections, the Republican candidate gets twice the votes of the Democrat. So there is apaprently a huge swath of Registered Republicans that don't vote.

And the number one reason is too many Californians have moved there
@barbaramonroe46592 жыл бұрын
And due to that perspective and behavior I will not hire Idahoians anymore for my businesses. Im tired of the rude discrimination.
@lifeafterthesqueeze38612 жыл бұрын
@@barbaramonroe4659 lol 😆 😂 🤣 😅 😄 good for you way to be discriminatory the number one problem in Idaho is Californians as soon as you cross the borders you ruin that state you enter just ask anyone who's lived in Idaho their entire lives that's why I won't come back at least not to Southern or Northern Idaho there's still some hope for Central

I grew up in northern id. When I was a kid the kkk had pride parades in Idaho. It’s always been 30 years behind the times. It’s fun to visit but I love the ocean and temperate climate of Seattle over hot summers and snowy winters of north Idaho

Our daughter and her family live in north Seattle. On the exit ramp to her neighborhood, there is a large homeless camp which is unnerving to me. No love for anything Seattle or WA - I love the color red, I love my religion, the Constitution and my freedom. That is why we are interested in CDA and Post Falls!

I have heard that Idaho is one of the last "white utopias" in America, 92% white! and very little crime! Thinking of moving there someday!.
@LivingLifeNorthIdaho2 жыл бұрын
I don’t personally subscribe to the ideology that white people make things good and people of color create problems. I’ve known plenty of terrible white people and I’ve met some incredible people of color. And it always came down to 3 main factors: intelligence, humility and character. Outside of that it really comes down to pigmentation and accents.

The more I research Idaho the more I like it with one exception and that’s sales tax. A sales tax is a regressive tax that puts a larger burden on retirees, the poor and young families Those groups spend a higher percentage of their income each month on taxable items then do the middle class and upperclass do. There are states that don’t have sales tax and yet are doing better in many ways. Inversely if Idaho were to do away with the sales tax the state would actually bring in more money because more people would be employed paying more personal income tax as well as more economic activity especially big ticket items such as cars and appliances as well as home improvements etc etc. So the state would simply get the tax revenue from other sources, and more of it, while not hurting the groups I listed. You should look into it as its rather interesting and would benefit Idaho

As the man says, if you want to live in Idaho, you adapt to Idaho. No changes.

Ok but Idaho is 1 of 2 states that does not tax social security, which is why retired people move here, therefore you don't see grandma working at Burger King.
