Oh and this is my second comment....forgot to mention it in my intial comment....Twara thanks for letting Mike tell as much of this story as possible. We know your personality (not trying to be mean here) and i just love when you smile and just let Mike talk. I feel as a guy/husband he has a powerful message that needs to be heard! Hope I said that ok.....love you both!

Yesterday I watched a KZbin video about a young women who was a single mom at 18. Complaining about living on minimum wage. Years later she is still working at McDonald's, on food stamps, and other benefits. Always blaming everyone else! You did great taking responsibility for your own mistakes and circumstances. Thanks for sharing your story.

You know, people say " oh that was 25 yrs ago". Well, that was 1996 not 1950. I remember what it cost to feed a family of 6 and now it cost more... 25 dollars a week in 1996 for groceries was not much. Congratulations to you for being able to do it.

That's the thing.. I always paid everything even if I had no money left to eat, and it was not until my 46 life year that I learnt that you can agree on monthly payments with most companies if you do not have the money. I also did not know that before.

Thank you soooo much for sharing your experience. It is gold worth. I grew up without my parebts' support and had to get a life all on my own. Nobody ever taught me the things you teach in your channel. I am learning a lot. Thank you for enriching my life 😉. Best regards, Lior

I have been very lucky in my life that I have been comfortable and for the last 10 years or so been debt free. I love watching your videos. You can always learn a new tip. But the most wonderful thing is that it is so inspiring. Don't you love to walk out of a movie and be so inspired to take on the world? Your videos do that for me.

I am so excited for this series! We are debt free except the house. We are excited to work hard to pay the house off but it can feel overwhelming since we owe $230,000 on our house in California, which is an inexpensive house in our area so we are grateful for that.

I took over the accounting part of the household, and that is a great tip...count the balance as zero when there is still money in it! Really hard to do when paying off debt, but once you are close to paying it off, keep over a thousand as cushion..NO CREDIT CARDS as cushion!!!😊

My mama taught me to keep a “pad” in the bank account which seems to be similar to your $1,000 = 0 idea. I’ve always done that and sometimes more to avoid fees and the like from the bank. I also always have a bit of cash on my person as well as identification - not in my purse - on me.

I think what is most helpful here is the fact that you both recognize your strengths and then work together as a team.👍 At this point in your story had you heard of Dave Ramsay? Just curious as you mention the $1000 emergency fund. And I believe this is step 1 in the baby steps!

My husband and I do 50 dollars a week, that is including extra food for stock , I make basically everything from scratch. people waste alot of money on precooked frozen foods. Most of the fruit and veggies I do not get or less they are on sale and If I have extra room in my budget that week, And you know I can still make really good healthy meals , people are just sloppy with there money and eat their retirement.

Hospitals don't always give cash payments a better deal. In 2017 I had a surgery that insurance said was covered then changed their minds 6 months later. The hospital said I owned 1,500 more, because it was an uncovered procedure, even of I paid cash. If I paid over time they would charge 5.6%. I'm retired and used my I RA to pay for it in cash. I got a big tax refund in 2018.

I think that your "AHA" moment was when you realized that you had emergency expenses each month of $300.00 a month. I believe today a lot of people don't have that aha moment and so they go from one "emergency" to another. Thank you for that great point, hopefully it will resonate with a lot of your listeners.

Thank for reminding me that we have to keep trying. In September by husband had a wreck and we got a nice amount of money back for our old van. We bought a car in October and now in January we have to get another car but there is no insurance money. I get discouraged because the last couple of years have been one thing right after another. God always blesses us and I am so grateful for all He does for us but I .am feeling a bit defeated.

I tried to put my checks in our account for a long time, and he ( an alcoholic) spent every bit of my check every weekend on Bose ! I never knew if a bill would bounce because of him so I got my own account and it was the best thing that ever happened..... loved him till the day he died( still do) but we were better off with 2 accounts.

My grandparents on my Mom's side (they were cheap?). My grandpa would dumpster dive. And my grandma and grandpa would split TV dinners. My mom and I would go do grocery shopping for my grandma. (My grandpa passed first). I would also do some shopping. I miss having my mom over for Amy's burritos and tea or a smoothie. But no guests are allowed right now (I think that is against our rights, but whatever).
