Generators are a big pain in the butt unless you have the one worth tens of thousands for the home. I saw so many with gas generators have to fight lines for gas, and were taking away from the vehicles. Then, those generators do not run but a few things. Why not ride out the catastrophe for 2 weeks by eating shelf stable stuff? And as things open up again, patronize them. Support the local small farms. Those gas lines are scary. Someone shot another person at the gas pump to jump the line to get gas. OH YES! Stay home, be satisfied, and if you have plenty of water, most of us have enough fat on our bodies to hang on a week or so.

At the beginning of the year, I was incredibly anxious. I was unable to sleep with worry about the state of our country. Every night getting ready for bed, I would pray to God to get us through this time and do so in His honor. One night while trying to sleep, I opened my tablet and my finger hit the preprogrammed KZbin button. I had never explored KZbin. But the first thing that came up was a video on prepping. I live outside a rural community in the mountains of Colorado. Even though I was raised here an# have recently moved back, I never learned to can, raise a garden, raise pigs, raise chickens, none of that. I had already started by learning to raise chickens when we moved up here because my husband eats a lot of eggs and I love to bake. COVID taught me a little more, and because we live so far from the grocery store, I tried to keep my pantry well stocked . But clicking on a video that was just about prepping for saving money, things to stock that are most useful, diversifying my stocks of food, water storage, all those things made me realize that God was answering my prayer, by saying "Get off your duff and learn and be prepared. Do something using the brain I gave you" Since then, I tried canning, that hasn't gone well but I'm learning, but I am a dehydrating machine! I get bulk vegetables on clearance at Shamrock Foods when we do go shop every other month, and have them dehydrated and on the shelf at very little cost. At an estate sale, I found half gallon jars for a quarter a piece, I bought 100 of them. I bought a water distiller and what half gallon jars are not filled with dehydrated veggies and herbs, are filled with distilled water. I also have those "awful" plastic gallon container, filled with water. My gas tank is always full and I have 10 gallons of fuel for my car and tractor if I need it. I may not have everything, but I can sleep at night. I am nervous, but not anxious. I have spent 10 months getting ready. If nothing happens, Hallelujah! And I've got an excellent start on stocking up for winter and beyond by having a base. Because God gave me a place to start.

Great video, I like your channel too. I'd like to add something. I learned some things when I went through a flood that didn't destroy the house, but water did come up almost to the first floor. So we were definitely blessed in that way. One of the things that stands out in my mind is to always have my laundry done. It may sound minor to some people, but it was important to me. I had to get a ride to someone's house to do laundry because I used to have a bad habit of letting it pile up. I really wanted to be home to help with cleanup, but it had to be done. I highly recommend that people look at what they normally do as errands and chores that might be disrupted in an emergency. Make sure you have your glasses and dental work up to date in case you can't get that stuff done. Also, another silly thing for me, cans and bottle returns. When we flooded I had a ton of them piled up, but the redemption center was closed for awhile, so in the midst of flood cleanup, I also had to deal with that mountain of bags. Again, in the grand scheme, didn't matter, but it was a huge annoyance for me and a reminder to KEEP UP ON CHORES AND ERRANDS. Edit: Serves me right for not watching the whole video before I commented. I'll leave it here though for another person's experience.

Sounds like the same storm ice storm we had in Oklahoma about the same time. Came that night and by morning we had no power. Every blade of grass had an inch of ice on both sides. We had natural gas heat that didn't require power to run so we were warm . I put our food in coolers and would go shake ice from the trees every day. Over 12,000 power poles were down. It was fun..not..but we managed and had a 4 yr old to keep busy. We went 2½ weeks without power. We played a lot of yahtzee and cards. I realized the power was on when I could hear a faint noise and after a few minutes I realized it was the refrigerator kicking on..we also would stand on porch and listen to the trees just snapping all over. I am in Idaho now and much more prepared now!! My 4 yr old is 27 now but she remembered it for sure.

I just do not understand why some people do not think past today. You should have some extras of basic items as well as the things, yes even cash in small bills, that are necessary for your family to function because everyone has different needs. This way even if nothing happens soon, you are still ready just in case some freak thing does happen, because storms, sickness in your family, job loss can happen and you will be that much more able to come out at the end mostly intact. Stay safe everyone!

I keep telling people food safe 5 gal pails with lids that seal are of value. (do you know how many people don't have a bucket?!) Propane cans like the ones you put on a large grill are running $64 and change. They were $50. Fresh data, I just made a purchase. As for the 5th... either way I don't believe anyone can fix all the things anytime soon. Tawra - spot on, water is #1, ready to eat foods are great.

I keep a gallon of water in my freezer to put in the fridge if the power goes out. It will keep your food from spoiling for a day or two.

I do this also with empty coffeemate bottles. It's better than having bags of ice, it's more solid and will last longer and you can use it for drinking.

MEN and WOMEN, you must Provide and Protect your family. Maintain some sort of plan in the event of chaos, disaster or anything that might bring harm to your family. Just try have the basic survival items of Water, Dried Foods, Canned Food, Propane or Butane for Cooking Devices or Home Heating, Medicine, Flashlights, Toiletries and finally PROTECTION with Ammunition. Please don't be one of those people that say; I'll just go over a family member house or a friend. You're going to be in for a rude awakening.

So glad you mentioned the fact that generators need gas. That is what I keep saying. We live in Alaska so half the year our freezers will be fine
@r.perkins21035 күн бұрын
Buy a 2000w or 1500w pure sine inverter that will run off your truck. Keep a couple of spare batteries so you can turn your vehicle into a generator and power your freezers. They need about 1000w to start up, but only about 80w running. But you need that overhead for start up.

I would do as much as you can now. Bad weather is expected next week in some areas, plus a lot of people are thinking that something ugly is going to happen on Tuesday, so get a jump on those other people.

The ice storm was 2005, I easily remember because it was during the 2 yrs my hubby was dealing with a brain tumor. We lived just west of Wichita. We were out for a week. We shuttled to a few places, the second one being my friend from work, whose hubby was an exec at the electro co., we got our electric fixed a few days later (I'm sure he had something to do with it!).

You make an excellent point about being frugal. In a SHTF scenario, all that picky stuff is out the window, and you wish you had bought more rather than not having enough. BTW you are a cute couple.I'm sorry I had to say it You are not in Kansas anymore

When lockdowns were announced in my state, our main grocery store had to call in the police bc people were fighting outside the store early in the morning before it even opened. LOL. This pushing and shoving prior to the opening each day went on for weeks. I was so grateful I didn't have to go there!

I used your cookbook to make homemade pizza for dinner tonight. The crust was amazing! I added all the suggested herbs into the dough. But for a little flair, I made it stuffed crust! I wish I could attach a photo. The family loved it, and our home was filled with an Italian aroma that was just heavenly. My next home cooked adventure using your cookbook is making my own hamburger buns infused with asiago cheese. I can hardly wait!

Please remember God is not a prevaricator and He has a plan. It's His plan and our wishes and desires don't always mesh with His plan. Great video! Also the first part of this is for any doubters in the audience.

You are so right. Sadly so many Christians don't think they need to do their part in God's plan. They think all they need to do is believe that God will take care of them. But I think we need to do our part.

One thing is, if you are storing water, make sure some of it is in small enough size that you can easily and quickly load into your vehicle, if you have to bug out. Big containers are really heavy. Also, don't store food or other goods directly on cement ( ie like your garage or basement floor). Put it up on shelves or wood pallets.

I’m glad to know I’m not alone in these ideas for just in case scenarios. I’m in a small South Alabama town but near the second largest city. Alabama is a red state but you never know and best to be prepared. Keeping this election and our country in prayer. We are absolutely in dark times!
