Before I started, I tried the Mountain House packs in Walmart in the camping section to try first. I ABSOLUTELY fell in LOVE with their Chili Mac and bought 6cans. I will again buy 6 if not more because I could definitely eat it a lot!! Plus I do canning so hey I always have that as a backup. The Mylar bags I definitely get it lol. I don’t use them a lot at all! Love this video!! It definitely needed to be filmed! Thank you!!🥰🥰🥰🥰

Louder for those in the back, only buy what you will eat! I have a friend and she is seriously buying things she will never eat. Her reasoning, but they say to have them on hand. Makes me nuts!

I highly suggest everyone taking just a week just eat off your pantry or couple days to learn what need or need stop getting! My daughter was in hospital for week no incoming coming in for that and I have say it helped having pantry but I was only stocked in basics have say rice bean and ground beef is great fill you but after being stressed would been nice if I have luxury sweet things like fruit canned or sauces!

We bought some Auguston food from Walmart, about 10 years ago It was gross, I tossed the bread flour out and the eggs smelled off we ended up buying more freeze dryed food from Costco, I'm going to try it and if it's yucky I am finished buying this kind of food, I believe it is Mountain house brand.

I have friends & family members who laugh at me and remind me that "the world ain't coming to an end tomorrow!" . They know I have my long term pantry because they helped me set up my shed where I have it. AND although they may laugh at me, they're not a bit too proud to say "Hey Lou, can I "borrow" a pak of tp, or a bottle of detergent, or a jar of pasta sauce so I dont have to run to the store"! I wish I had been able to install and organize the shelving system on my own, with no help, so no one knew I have it :(

What about egg noodles or any pasta with eggs? Shelf life is better after drying, but how long can they be stored?
@joydavid8128 Жыл бұрын
Easier to make a solution of water and peppermint essential oil or pure extract. AND just spray along the baseboards and covers of buckets.

My local IGA grocery store bakery will give me frosting/filling buckets (various sizes) with gasketed lids for free upon request. They've already been washed out (I wash again just to be safe), and the price is right. 😉 Most have been 4 or 5 gallon buckets, a few have been smaller. Perfect for storing the bulk grains we use.

And watch the labels and expiration dates. Tons of things have bio engineered things in them now I have noticed ..minute rice ...is just rice. Which is the one I purchase. .... Store brand rice lists about 5-6 ingredients you can't understand. Try to stay away from that.

MREs do not last very long at all, maybe 3 years max, so they are not suitable for stockpiling. Moreover, it is difficult if not impossible to know for certain what you are getting. Are they real military surplus? When were they made as opposed to "inspected"?, etc. A plethora of questions with a dearth of answers...

Yes, I'd like to see a comparison of freeze dried mountain house, legacy, auger son farms, and all the top tier #10 cans. I simply can't afford to buy and open those cans. I'm hoping for the best, but I have my doubts, I planned on adding rice, beans, and spices to improve the taste. But I don't know what texture, taste, and smell to expect. Mountain House is very expensive and cost prohibitive, but no freeze dried food has a price value if it's awful in an emergency. Thanks, great channel!

Yesterday we got an early start on an errand out of our immediate area so stopped multiple places on our way home to shop peanut butter prices in preparation for our April Sr Ctr donation. We discovered that Walmart did not have the cheapest prices and in particular in 1 pound containers. (We dont buy a lot of peanut butter and when we do, we sorta, kinda just buy it rather than look for the best price in town.) It turns out that the two places we buy at have cheaper prices than others; one is a discount grocery store and we buy there if the price seems good for the types were looking for, and the other had generally the cheapest prices in town on thier house brand and also the non-sugar added which is what we generally buy.

FYI - The tip on peppermint oil is a big load of baloney. My last house had spiders and everyone told me peppermint oil. Didn't do a thing. This house, mice. Everyone says peppermint oil. We had it so think in here with peppermint oil we could barely stand to live here....and the mice were like "whatcha got for me today you foolish woman?" Peppermint oil is a WASTE OF MONEY.

I am old enough to remember that there was a time when use/sell by dates did not exist. Recently I had a can of mushrooms that was about a year past its date. No bulges, dents etc, but when I opened it the inside of the can looked very discolored and oxidized. Just wondering if commercial canning specks are lower quality now that these dates are used. Does that make sense? What do you think?

I have freeze dried Patriot foods for a while and a little concern to try them now. I use that Dyfamashius Earth in my food totes. I'm content with my hurricane preparedness. I only buy what we eat. We rotate our canned goods. Learning to make biscuits from scratch and it doesn't matter if it's self rising or all purpose flour. Cooking from scratch isn't bad, just don't like standing in front of the stove. Thanks for your advice.

Those food companies have good tasting foods but they give you things in their packages that you can get cheaper, like oatmeal, pasta, ect. The meals are good. I don't like powdered milk and every package has them included so to me it's a waste of money. Aldi and Walmart have the soups in pouches that are good so I buy them. Only thing with them is they take 8 cups of water to cook them so I make sure I have water stored just for them. Can soup is just so expensive even on a so called sale now. 1 package feeds my whole family (5) sometimes for dinner then lunch the next day if I have bread and a salad with it. They cost around 3 dollars each, take or give a few cents 🤔.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the outside of your house about a foot wide and up your stairs into your house. They don't like the pepper and it also stops the smell they leave behind for others to follow. I live near 2 farms and I have no mice in my house or outside buildings.

Yes, just remember those bags can be eaten by mice ( ask me how I know) after vacuum sealing I put our bags in a food grade bucket or you can use a Mylar bag in a Home Depot bucket. I mark the outside with what’s in it and the date. We just put up instant potatoes like this. Good luck, there is quit a bit of satisfaction knowing we have a little put back.
