My favorite go to place!! In 1994, I went there with my brother and sister-in-law to help them with laundry and cleaning rooms and ironing. My brother did carpentry work and sister in law managed it for the summer. She also did the cooking. We also painted a couple rooms. I was paid for what I call my working vacation. I had Tuesdays off and went and sat on the rocks with binoculars and watched ships go by. The name of the B&B is Bayview. It is on the water and has its own dock. We stayed in the basement. We were there 7 weeks. The owner is a good friend of my brother and sister-in-law. My sister in law also did the decorating and made all the bedding and draperies and bathroom shower curtains. I did not want to come home!! Wish I could afford to live there!!! 10:45

Do you mind sharing the name of the B&B where you stayed?
@livingphase2 Жыл бұрын
@richardjenkins4513 On this last trip, we didn't stay to be in a B&B. We actually stayed with a motel we like in St. Ignace. It's not fancy but it is inexpensive and has a great view. Here's a link. bayviewlakefront.com/

The Island can also be reached by airplane. True, you can't drive a motorized vehicle there. But there is an ambulance and firetruck on the island. Mackinac Island is magical!!

Mike and Nancy, I enjoyed your video. it was very informative. Myself and 3 of my 4 other siblings were born in Battle Creek. I have always wanted to visit Mackinac Island. A very dear friend and I are hoping to make a Spring trip in late April 2025. I liked that you gave approximate costs for things on the island. It helps us first timers to get a feel of how much to allow for our time spent there, and we will be able to go with a closely figured amount and then add 10-15% to that for unexpected things that we might want to do. If you aren't staying at the Grand, can you still make reservations for afternoon tea? Or is that strictly for the guests? The Grand hotel lawn games, is that only for guests, or can all join? Is there a cost? I appreciate your help and time, but I should probably just call the hotel and ask them. :) Thank you for posting your video.

You are going to love Mackinac Island. You do not have to be a guest to go to their tea, you can just make reservations. I’m not sure of the cost.

Any suggestions for getting breakfast as soon as we get off the ferry? We were thinking of getting up early, catching the ferry as early as possible (how early does it begin its run?) and having our breakfast on the island. We’d appreciate any suggestions.
@livingphase24 ай бұрын
Our favorite place for breakfast on the island is the Chuck wagon. Tiny little place but we love the food the service and it's a bit unique. Here's a link. Enjoy! chuckwagononmackinac.com/

The st. Ignace ferry terminal always has less traffic and shorter lines. Skip the mackinac city side.

Agree. It is much easier. St. Ignace is also a great town to visit.

The E bike rule has changed since you were there. The only people able to use them at all are disabled and only pedal assist. Class 2 or 3 are banned for everyone.
@livingphase22 ай бұрын
I was wondering if that would happen. Seeing people buzzing around on them it is an issue as crowded as the streets are. I'm sure we'll be back up there next summer as we're now just returning from our ultimate 9-month World Cruise. Thanks for following along with us
@LostinMayberry2 ай бұрын
@@livingphase2 correct, and I don’t think people really understand that bike accidents can be pretty severe. There was a fatality within the last week between a bicyclist and horse drawn carriage. I believe I read that the lady lost control and slammed into the buggy. The whole situation is very sad, but of course, if she was going faster it could’ve caused so much more injury to buy standards or the people on the buggy. I’m glad to hear you’re going back, at some point. If you’re in Michigan in the winter consider going then. There is still some tourism, although yes, most tourist spots are shut down. Visitors in the winter experience more of what it’s like to live on the island.

Personally, I don't like Mackinaw Island fudge, I'm a Frankenmuth fudge girl all the way. LOL my 18-year-old son watched this with me and asked to take him again. Last time we went for his 5th grade field trip. He said now that I am older that actually looks like a fun place to visit, before he says he was too young to appreciate it.
@livingphase29 ай бұрын
There’s a lot of truth to that. We jokingly say it is Disneyland for adults. And we love Frankenmuth too.

What month did you go to Mackinac Island? We want to go in April, what do you think?
@livingphase27 ай бұрын
April will be lovely. But if you wait until May, more of the lilacs will be in bloom, and those are incredible. We’ve been there several times throughout various summer months and have a great time no matter when we go. Before you go, Google lilacs in bloom on Mackinac, and see when they’re expected to bloom for that year.
