The church is inspired by the columnar rocks you can see at one of the beaches. Same type of rock as Devil’s Tower in Wyoming

I’ve been to Qaqortoq many years ago, it was pouring rain & this lovely woman invited us into her home to warm up. I’ll never forget that.

Would you recommend traveling to Reykjavik? My young adult son is planning diy land trip with his friends. Should I be concerned?

I visited Pompeii followed by Herculaneum. They are fairly close to each other and I highly recommend visiting both.

Thanks for sharing this adventure. I was in Reykjavik 2 days after you. I saw the waterfall which was beautiful. I did Sky Lagoon instead of Blue Lagoon. It was very nice not as crowded as Blue Lagoon. Glad you made it back to the ship while the volcano was erupting. I got to see it from the ship as we were pulling out of Port. Thanks again for sharing.

As a Dutchie I have to point out that we speak Dutch in the Netherlands and not Flemish, that is spoken in the Flanders part of Belgium. So actually you now have insulted the Dutch 😞by calling our language Flemish. Although Dutch and Flemish sound similar but they aren't, some expresions differ in both languages and also some word order. So in the Heineken brewery you sang the popular song 'Tulpen uit Amsterdam' (1956/1957) in Dutch while riding the bike.

This was my favorite stop on this cruise. We did the trolls cars and also the ride up to Loen. Breath taking views. As we were leaving the locals came out waving their flags and singing “Time to say Goodbye”! Very touching.

Icelandair and perhaps other airlines offer stopovers of up to a week on flights to/from Europe. We have taken advantage of that 3 times, staying 3 days each time. It’s a nice way to break up the flight home. Two other benefits for us is that the flight from Frankfurt leaves at a reasonable time and the flight to Denver is direct.
