Thanks. As a church pianist, this really is a lesson that I need to learn especially since it is also being recorded for our Livestream services. I would love to see more content along these lines

Over the last year I have seen differences in my playing for church putting this into practice

Yep, this is a topic that isn't discussed by most teachers, yet it's probably the most important. I always told my students that they have to exaggerate, not only because they need to project for others, but because of how their brains work. I would tell them that by the time they see the stuff on the page, their brain processes it, they get it through their fingers, the piano receives it, then the room/hall/etc messes with the sound...it's much, much degraded from how they first perceived it on the page. I would record them with decent equipment and play back when was picked up, and it was far different than how they thought they were hearing the music. It's yet another laying to playing/performing that the player never really thinks about.

This is very interesting subject I didn’t think about playing the piano differently when I play for me or playing to other people

Thanks for the insight. Would what appears to be grotesque to self by an exaggerated display of notes become more acceptable or normalised over time? Or do you find you will always have two styles in your inventory (and reserve the more modest/non-exaggerated display to your own time)?

Vocalists know this technique and call it “singing to the back wall”. How do I know that?... Been there, done that.

This is why my parents never appreciate my playing. Hahaha. OK, now I will exaggerate!

I never realized how much more to playing piano there is than the difficult task of learning to read sheet music and playing the correct notes. I loved the analogy of the painting in the beginning, fabulous video, thank you Sir. :)
