MAESTRO!! This is one of your best videos/pianos EVER!! What a sound, and of course, the way you played it is beyond spectacular - never heard Chopin sound so fantastic on a piano until I heard this one - WOW!

You don't need me to tell you this piano is absolutely gorgeous. All the accolades you gave it are validated by the sound, even over the internet. This is an outstanding instrument that deserves a fine home setting, whether that home is a school, concert venue, or actual home. Thanks for sharing.

I feel like there is so much lost by listening to this over the internet. I imagine how rich and immersive it sounds in person.

You’re right! However, if you listen back with good speakers or headphones, the recording is made with very fine Neumann microphones.

@@LivingPianosVideosWhile that’s true, it’s still digital. I have always been able to tell the difference between digital and analog and so much prefer analog.

@@sheldonhamblin5563I’ve heard that vinyl recordings reproduce certain sounds (notably from symphony orchestras) that digital cannot, as it’s a continuous sound rather than pieces of sound played back at whichever rates.

Robert, I just finished tuning my SD 10 today. Restrung, new agraffes, done fussy with reference to Del Fandrich. I agree with everything you have said in this video and thank you for the demonstrations. There is no higher instrument among all the finest. Dave Postma, Hudsonville, Michigan

The only concert grand that gave the SS Model D any competition here in the US. Too bad it’s no longer in production. I have a ‘96 Baldwin R, wish I had space to upgrade to its big brother here.

Here is a fabulous model L Baldwin. At 6' 3" it would be a substantial upgrade for you: livingpianos.com/pianos/baldwin-artist-series-grand-piano-3/

Loved the video Robert! Maybe my favorite romantic pianist ever Jorge Bolet played Baldwin SD-10 his whole career. In Europe he used Bechstein which are fabulous too. Jorge used to travel with his SD-10 in a trailer from concert to concert in the U.S. He was a titanic player and loved Baldwin SD10's.

I'd drop 100K in a second on this piano. I've played this model myself, and it is truly glorious.

Gorgeous piano! I love the tenor voice in it, but it segues between voices very nicely, and the soprano is surprisingly warm and resonant as well. Not much bass in the Bach excerpt to fully appreciate, but from what I can tell the sound is just jumping out of this piano. I love Baldwins, though I love Steinways even more (and I have a New York Model D with Renner action). But if I had that SD10, I sure wouldn’t miss my Model D.

That’s pretty cool you have both the SD-6 and SD-10 on hand, plus a Steinway D? A comparison video?😎

Sounds great! I've listened to the Baldwin/Steinway comparison from a few months back several times. I think the Baldwin (SF10 or F, can't remember) won (at least in my opinion).

101 percent agree it’s quite a remarkable instrument and hard to best. Would be great if concerts today were not 99.999 percent in Steinway and we had variety from other great instrument manufacturers

I deleted an earlier comment asking about the price after concluding that given the condition and, more importantly, the sound of this piano, $49k is not at all an unreasonable asking price from a dealer/rebuilder. But as someone who is wading into the market in the $15-20k range, this instrument is simply out of my price league. I've seen some extremely nice SD-10s on this very channel with asking prices half or lower of this one and some elsewhere online that may or may not be musically suitable going for even fractions of those. The question that still nags me on this is what are you getting by going $20, 30 or even 40k higher besides a beautiful finish and perhaps that last 5% of performance? Will this '96 really last five times longer than say the '75 being sold by Stillwell right now? Or is it just that much performatively superior? Edit: Oh and the playing is exquisite, thanks.

It all depends upon the level of piano you are after. This is one of the finest concert grand pianos of any brand I have ever played. We have other Baldwin concert grands that are rebuilt like new that are also phenomenal instruments in a lower price range: livingpianos.com/pianos/baldwin-concert-grand-2/

I love Baldwin... grew up playing a 1960 Acrosonic. Even there, a true, warm tone all its own. Yes, what a treasure the grands are, especially the concert grand. Thanks for playing the Pathetique-- really brings Baldwin memories back to me (played this then). Oh, where'd the time and music go?! Beautiful! ✨🎹👏

Speaking of such, I had a small 42.5 inch stencil console piano with the Wurlitzer label but manufactured by Young Chang. I purchased it new in 1993. The action was stiff and it was impossible to get much dynamics out it. It was a hunk of junk.

Call it what you want but I would never trade my Bluthner for it
@jacobneal53885 ай бұрын
Bluthner makes a gorgeous piano. Certainly a much different tone from a Baldwin concert grand or any American piano for that matter of fact. Although you may prefer your Bluthner to this SD-10 you can’t deny the rich warm tone and beauty that the Baldwin produces.
