Man, I was 13 years old in 1999 so I can absolutely recognise my own teenage years in what you described. What a crazy time to be young! I still listen to the first 2 CKY records every few years. Such a great band and some very tasty riffs. Whenever I hear an OC2 or see someone playing a Parker Fly, I can’t help but think of CKY.

I saw CKY perform in college, they opened for Atreyu (there's a sentence I never thought it'd say). I don't remeber much, but I remember the lead singer was playing a Parker and just definitely playing lead lines while singing and I'm 100% sure he never looked at the fretboard.

Always dug that sound, in general. Something about using the octaver with those kinds of riffs just really cuts through. I know Derron is more into death metal and prog but because it's so riff-centric, it really is comfortable in a desert rock/stoner metal setting.

Deron and Chad were a brilliant writing duo. CKY band came out at the right and wrong time, in my opinion. It was right in line with Bam's videos and it catapulted the band into stardom, but if those songs were created and released with more of a social media presence, I think it would've been even bigger.
