I really enjoyed the video. I'm now 70 and it reminded me of my grandma who'd take me for walks in the woods as a boy. She'd show me edible nuts and fruits, wild poke, things I don't even remember anymore. She would gather it all in her apron that she always wore. I love southern Missouri.

We have dozens of spice bushes on our property. We have a large Buckeye tree in our yard. Our dear friend, Fairley, always carried one in his pocket. We miss him deeply. He fell from a ladder and hit his head on concrete. He never woke up and passed soon after. He always had a smile on his face and joy for the Lord in his heart.

You are so blessed to have such a bounty of food on your land. I remember my Aunt taking me for walks in the woods of her farm in Missouri growing up. I truly miss that. She also had so many black walnuts, pecans and so many different apple, pear and persimmon trees, and gooseberry, blackberry bushes, we were always picking. She also had sassafras, would make us tea. I really miss that part of my youth. LOL

Please share more of your amazing foraging trips. Your woodlands are filled with beauty & natural bounty. This foraging activity is definitely part of farm living, especially to our pioneer ancestors. You are so blessed with the large natural variety of nut trees, fruiting plants and floral scenes. I know your homestead wildlife appreciates your land’s bounty. I could spend hours sitting beside the babble of water from your streams while studying the incredible array of rocks & stones that reveal so much geological history of your property. I’m sure archaeologists are aware of the historic stone arrangements that previous ancestors created. This video was so well arranged you deserve video recognition of presenting your bounty of Nature’s Gifts.

As a child growing up in rural Missouri we collected walnuts & butternuts to sell at a local store who had a sheller set up to earn some pocket change. We harvested sassafras roots for tea. We did not have many pawpaw trees in our area that I remember but we had persimmons. We did have an abundance of dance of blackberries growing along side the road and wild gooseberries growing in the woods. My mama would forage for mushrooms in the spring. Those are good memories!
