***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

We had a fence line over rock when I was a child, 60-70 years ago. Can’t remember exactly. But I do remember dad building a box form for concrete. He placed the box in the fence line and put a post into the box pouring the mix into it. The footing was above ground about 2 1/2 feet wide and about 9-12 inches tall. I remember he only poured one box a day. First clearing the spot of loose rubble. He also pushed loose rocks into the cement to “use less concrete mix”.

Joel Salatin's Polyface farm was lots of rocks and gullies when he was 4 years old. The methods he uses has built up topsoil and now their farm is lush pastures. You could feed hay on the edge of that washed out area to build soil there.

@hollyjobitner3285 3 күн бұрын
I was also thinking about sacrificing a bale of hay down on the bottom on the rocks. Maybe after the fence is repaired and before some snowy icy weather you might consider taking a bale down over the hill. 💙

@hollyjobitner3285 at Gabe Brown's in Bismark, North Dakota, they place their bales in good weather, add fence, then remove fence to allow animals into thrme next paddock. Steve Kenyon in Canada does this, too. Winters in the north can be a challenge. But these folks have figured out what works for their context. Neat to see additional ideas to use or adapt for oneself.

Our dairy cow stopped wanting to go into her stall and we discovered that we had a chemical near her feed and she got scared being pregnant. Maybe make sure the bleach and any other smells are away from her stall. Remember how it was when you were pregnant. Smells where more intense.

Hi guys, I don't know the layout of the land that gets flooded but if it was possible wouldn't a better option be, is to build a dam wall so that when it floods again the water would be held back. There would be a variety of materials and designs that could be used. Just a thought.🤔

The comment about the rock corner post is a great idea, hard work but long lasting. The other thing I thought of was to use the rock for road base, especially where you have to drive over and over again like through gates. Not sure of the logistics but it is free otherwise. Keeping fences on flat ground is hard enough and I can only imagine how difficult it is with your hills! Great job never give up!

Kevin if you use trees to hold up your fence coach screw a piece of treated lumber to the tree and fix the wire to the wood, it does not hurt the tree and the wire from the fence does not grow into the tree and rust. We had miles of fencing that ran through the bush (woods) and never had a problem.

But I really enjoy watching your videos. Seeing all you beautiful animals is something I love. I also love seeing your garden and green house videos. My family used to produce the majority of there own food. And I love seeing other familys and couples doing the same thing. It always amazes me how much good food can come from a farm or homestead. You guys do such a wonderful job of that, and it lifts my spirits. So thank you for sharing yoour wonderful videos with us. I wish you and your family all the best. God bless.😊😊😊😊😊😊.

When I first saw it, reminds me of the walking dead. Looks like he is impelled on the fence and all the leaves look like old guts and stuff. Sorry if it upsets you, I Most certainly didn't mean it that way. Like I said , I think its funny. Us old folks tend to say what we think.
