Hello once again, and I am so pleased you have made it to Sandwich, surely one of the most fascinating and historically intense towns in southern England - visitors should allow at least four one day trips to understand it all.Special mention ( if I may ) would be The Church of St Clement`s, the massive central Norman tower is one of the best examples in the UK, the church dating to the 12th Century, and The Church of St Peter, on the site of an earlier Saxon church, with it`s distinctive Dutch tower and cupola. Internal wooden steps( fairly recently built ) allow visitors to climb up for a really terrific view over Sandwich -but be aware, the steps are somewhat steep and tight. The Fisher Gate, dating from the mid 1300`s, is worth seeing in every regard - and so much more ............... :) Many, many thanks, superb walk, as always !!

Hello again Mr T, ah yes we made it to Sandwich, and I do believe it was on your recommendation? We do remember you (well we think it was you) saying it was one of the most fascinating and historically important towns in southern England. Sounds like we'll have to return for 3 more one day trips to enjoy it all. @@LivingWalks Well, indeed, it was quite possibly a suggestion of mine, but it would be buried deep in my comments :( Sandwich, there is simply so much to see, such depth of history, that I confidently stand by my four day visit strategy - you would not be dissapointed.Look inside the Elizabethan Guildhall, pretty much as it was in the mid 1500`s - stunning in every way, and also imagine Sandwich as the busy and important trading port, with shipping arriving from far away places - the noise, the bustle. I do hope you enjoyed your own visit, and my thanks once again - super :)

Of course, it is also a nice place to visit just for a day out :) One observation : the chap sawing the log really has no idea - Medieval carpenters had developed what we would call a saw horse - which would hold a log in place making it easier to cut into lengths - he is struggling for no good reason !!

My wife and I have lived in Sandwich for 22 years and we love it. I work at The King's Arms Hotel. Such a lot of history. Goes back to Tudor times.

Hi, I enjoyed this very much, the round trip all the way, from, and back to; the medieval centre. The gun boat, market, shops, park, church, cafes, flowers, timber frame, old walls, white walls, cinema and pubs. All so authentic !! Or, is it too authentic, too pristine ?!?? At times I suspected this was an elaboration set, assembled for an England based, romantic comedy film, employing many extras and a wee yapping dog ! 😃. Thank you for showing our town to the world. There are also some lovely walks following the old town wall. Sandwich will host the British Open golf tournament in July 2021.. The station platforms have been lengthened to accommodate 12 train carriages.
