I remember thinking that Sharif must have been heartbroken, as you say how could anyone find a better place to live. Never did belong to Omar Sharif, nor did he lose it in a card game, Cesar Manrique was not the designer. It was owned by Sam Benady designed by Jesus Soto , Sam paid Omars hotel bill in exchange for saying he was going to buy it ,it was just publicity. How do I know, my husband was Sam's solicitor and staying in the Fariones with them. Many card games but the rest is just myth. Good story though.
