I have to admit I was disappointed that I wasn't recognizing younger people in the room listening to her lesson. Wouldn't they be the important age to show interest so as to carry the knowledge on? I would like to add, I'm glad to see a young lecturer teaching this art.

Love this. I'm not sure, but I think it also helps when people like others comments as well. I never knew it mattered that much to see engagement in the comment section til recently. I still don't know much about it but I been hearing from other pages that it does matter to comment just like it matters to like. So what I've started is liking others comments more as well just in case that makes a difference. 👍 can never have to many likes. I just hope my name don't go down your notification that many times lol.

Can we get some info on “charging” tinctures? Like removing the spent herb from the alcohol after extraction and adding more. Does this increase the potency like I think it will?
@inbedduringcovid30053 жыл бұрын
I heard that it does when watching a clover video about it. That has made me want to see if its any video proving they tested a batch that went once with a batch that went 3 rounds. That would be pretty potent. My goal is to use freeze dryer to reduce things down the most but I forgot about multiple rounds to do as well. After taking the used ones out i would still put them in a fresh batch just to see what comes out each time. 👍
@GDESS73 жыл бұрын
Yes, straining your tincture will increase potency. However, you must be very mindful of dose. Doing this with a low dose herb, meaning one in which high dose may be toxic I would not recommend. Herbs which are high dose, meaning you can take more, more often such as lemonbalm or nettles I would say it’s safe to do a dual extraction.

I started again making fruit vinegar. Let fruit sit in apple cider vinegar and when cold its like a juice. Eventually I will start back doing it from adding sugar to fruit yeast water but I could never tell when it was done since I kept feeding it lol. So still practicing. Using apple cider vinegar at least lets me know its already useable. Been trying to get vodka or something to put my vanilla beans in but people think since I'm bedridden im going to drink it lol. But I love the idea of making tinctures because my granny had a big jar of one that wasn't for children. But once she pulled it out for me to take a spoon of it. It had orange slices in and honey I think because it was thick and sweet. I think it was called repel. I didn't get the chance to ask why that moment was decided to give to me. Maybe something was spreading. I was a little sick that day but when I saw that I forgot all about it.

Just wanted to add to your apple cider vinegar, I did bottles of pear cider vinegar that I'm sure is now wine lol. Use it as salad dressing. Sorry you got the "c", hope all is well now.
@nancyobrien28542 жыл бұрын
@@PrairieJournals that's an interesting statement. Just got into home brewing wine. My understanding is you have to be careful not to get oxygen in your wine when racking/bottling or you run the risk of turning your wine into vinegar. they say the higher the percentage of alcohol the less likely it will happen.

Great lesson. Thank you Question If I distilled a tincture (not for Essential oils) will the resulting distilled fluid retain the therapeutic benefits of the plants used in the tincture?
@jeepdriver76032 жыл бұрын
Firstly, thank you for making the video. I think the gentleman's concern about using vodka made from GMO grain is misplaced. Even if the grain is a GMO, it isn't being consumed. The enzymes in the grain convert the starch to sugar, and yeast consume the sugar producing carbon dioxide and alcohol. All of the material is filtered out and then the alcohol is distilled. I don't see how any aspect of the grain (GMO or not) remains in the final product. If I am wrong, please correct me.

One early question was whether you can leave herbs in jar after the 6 weeks "brewing" period.. Yes, BUT ... The herbs should Always be covered by the liquid.. Otherwise they may develop mold where they are touched by oxygen.. If that ever happens you should discard the entire jar, re-sterilize it and start a new batch.

Could I add lets' say 100mL of a 96% Etthanol tincture to a mason jar with 100mL of glycerine or propilenglycol? I dont know if the ethanol will react but the idea is to have the high concentration solute to a more pallatable medium.

I tried drying my herbs before adding it to alcohol. Does that dilute the properties?
@GDESS72 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. I prefer working with fresh herb for reasons of vitality. However, drying the herb can actually make a tincture stronger because, the water has evaporated from the plant and you are essentially adding more of the plant, making it more concentrated. A couple of things to consider. Does my medicine need to be stronger? If not use fresh. Fresh is safest because it has water weight and dilutes alcohol. Also, If it is a low dose botanical, meaning a plant you only use a small amount of sometimes, making it stronger may not matter, nor be advised.
