I have Bipolar One, for starters. My episodes of manic psychosis have both a prodromal phase, and an an ictal phase. Manic psychosis is treated and prevented with anti-seizure medication. If manic psychosis were to be recognized as the species of epilepsy that it is, that would end the stigma. Would you please verify that I am correct?

Hi, I have a question. When the doctor says that if you're already obese/overweight, you probably want to eat less fat than other people because the fat on your body is already ketogenic, did he mean less fat in relationship to the other things you're eating, like your macros are different, or did he mean your macros are the same but you're eating less of everything because you're aiming your calories lower? And if he meant the former, where do you set macros? Thank you very much!

Great interview! Thx. My wife had schizophrenia, treated only by drugs, for over 35 years. She lived constantly with delusions. Over 15 different drugs were used to treat her over those years. The "side-effects" were horrible as anyone knows whose been on these medications. Her weight was unmanageable. She was a walking zombie. Terrible gut issues. Couldn't read or concentrate. And so on. By God's help, we stumbled across a video on KZbin of Dr Palmer being interviewed by Dr Brett Sher. Well after seeing that we did a lot more research and decided to cut out the junk food and high sugar and just eat whole non-starchy foods. The results were dramatic. After 6-8 weeks she no longer had any delusions. And there were many other improvements. It's been 7 months, her psychiatrist has reduced her medication by 3/4. He has been over the moon watching her changes. He could not be happier. She has lost 13 kg (26lbs). No one sold us anything. It was just changing what we ate, from highly processed foods to whole foods like our grandparents ate. Hey Lauren, it would be nice if you could do an interview with someone who's used this intervention and ideally their psychiatrist too, as a primer for people to share with their practitioners. I'm sure anyone who hears about the intervention would get excited, but of course there's going to be skepticism especially when the biggest advocate has a book to sell! If it works, it needs to be propagated responsibly and quickly, and additional voices would definitely help with that!

My loved one was inpatient at McLean Hospital, where Dr. Palmer is affiliated with, and even the doctors there had not heard of this. Every doctor that we have dealt with thinks this is anecdotal and are dismissive. How is it that they have spent years in med school yet don't believe in science? How is it that non-medically trained people know more than doctors? Why are they in this field if they don't truly want to help and heal people?

Hopefully dr palmer's research will help a lot of people. There's likely multiple etiologies of schizophrenia (more than one cause) but clearly his area of research can "cure" at least some people who are suffering, just based on all the research I was familiar with before hearing about him. Really unfortunate that more investigation hadn't occurred since the first case reports back in the 1800s, but then again, antipsychotics saw steady improvements over the years so they were seen as an eventual permanent solution. More research, more interventions, more is better!

But looking back, I suspect that depressive symptoms were already developing in my childhood. After trying numerous treatments, I had resigned myself to a fate of lifelong depression. Then I began experimenting with low-carb diets to lose weight. An unexpected side effect was my depression entirely disappeared. And it's never come back since. very important part of the diet is that you exercise. if you eat a little bit too much of carbs, going on even a small 3 mile run will burn off the excess glucose. and no one can convince me that it's bad for sport performance, at least for us that do it recreationally. I've ran some crazy long distance runs while being in ketosis. my tip is that lettuce salad is so good if you put tuna cans with oil directly in the bowl and mix it and add olives, feta etc. there's ketogenic diet and there's healthy ketogenic diet. sour cabbage is very low in carbs and has a whole lot of vitamin C. with some pork sausages you get a very very low carb ketogenic dish, that's very traditional (for those of european ancestry), just without the potatoes. pecan nuts, brazil nuts, nuts in general are healthy even for those not doing the diet. when you watch TV you can snack on olives. if you miss fruit, buy a whole lot of fruit tea blends, that have negligible carbs and will give you that mango, peach, whatever taste, in summer you can make them iced. Super tasty keto recipe: - saute two small chopped onions in about 3 tablespoons of olive oil - meanwhile beat 6 eggs with ana little salt - pour boiling water into a big pot full of about 500g of fresh spinach with a little salt and let it wilt a bit - pour spinach through the strainer and squeeze as much water out as you can - put it on the wooden desk where you chopped onions and cut it just a little in lines - in a plastic bowl crumble about one packet of 200g of feta cheese - mix the feta, onions with oil, spinach, beaten eggs, a little olive oil and MCT oil in the plastic bowl - and put it in the oiled glass (I can't remember what it's called) and put itin oven at 190 degrees C - and bake for about 45 minutes

The fats that you eat do not necessarily equal fat that you keep on your body. And restricting fats will have a neuropsychological impact. Fats (Omega 3s, mono saturated, polyunsaturated) lower stress responses and are linked as neurotransmitters. This metabolic response is absolutely necessary for Schizophrenics. Anyone following the regular diet will eventually balance out. I believe and could be incorrect that the doctor is thinking with his misogynist Freud and not his biochemistry. There is a small chance for stored fat on the body to supply this kind of neurological impact for people suffering psychosis, ADHD and schizophrenia. Dr. Hoffer prescribed eating nuts and especially walnuts. He favoured these for two reasons 1. High Omega 3 and 2. They were at the time the cheapest nuts. Hoffer always maintained that the best vitamins were the cheapest ones. The reason being that they were available to the entire population and that therefore likely to be taken more readily.

I can confirm for schizophrenia olanzapine works best. I tried aripiprazole and it made my auditory hallucinations got worse and gave me a headache which is a common side affect from aripiprazole. After 3 weeks of aripiprazole I got so ill I had to change back to olanzapine. I have been out of hospitable for over 2 years with olanzapine 20mg. Remember guys if your suffering from voices outside your head or inside your head you still need to take medication to chill you out. I tried other medications that did not work. If the ketogenic diet works you may be able to reduce your prescription. If you take a anti-depressant like Prozac it may help you lose weight because it can make you feel like vomiting. It improved my mood. I'm on 20mg of Prozac but I would be happier on 10mg.

Lauren, the secret that's underlying is fasting. In the case of Keto its fasting carbs, but if you intermittent fast with keto for years it will also have amazing effects. Jesus said fasting is the key to healing mental illnesses, and what this doctor just said proves it. Thank you for this video I will be watching more of your content. You are doing so well in my eyes!!!!

Jesus said fasting is the key to healing mental illnesses," where did he say that in the bible? I read some chapters and never found it
@newperspective1318 Жыл бұрын
@@jeanpaultongeren125 If you read passages already, I have an idea this is baited. So, I will come right out and be honest, I believe mental illness and physical illness is due to evil spirits. Every creature on earth has some sort of parasite that can get into a fishes gills for instance. Sharks have those fish that swim by its mouth constantly etc. My point is, demons are just spiritual parasites to humans in my opinion. But scripturally I believe demons are the cause of our ailments which is where Jesus' miracles were centered.

My family has done keto before and we came off of it for various reasons. This video has me rethinking it because I have two daughters on the autism spectrum, one of whom is battling severe, anxiety and depression, and the other of whom also has seizures, and now I'm really starting to question whether my older daughter suddenly had two large seizure episodes because we came off of this diet. Maybe there's a way to work it for me other than stopping it completely, but it becomes very difficult and frustrating to balance if you suddenly have to customize it; trying to find a point where carbs knock you out of ketosis. In general I wasn't feeling very good on it anymore. I am a hypothyroid patient (now, with one lobe of my thyroid gone and the other side, completely useless) and I think that I have a higher need for healthy carbs than a lot of other people would have. I did just want to tell people quickly, though that there are keto friendly sweets that you can eat when you're really craving something or when you're first getting into this diet that will not mess you up. Remember the name Lily's chocolates. It is sweetened with erythritol and Stevia. I could not do keto if that didn't exist. I do prefer that they used a blend of Monk fruit and allulose rather than erythritol, but it's not like I'm pounding it all day. Also, honestly, you'll be fine on the urine strips. I've had the blood monitor and I've done the strips, and the expense of the monitor is absolutely not worth it to me. It actually has more value as a glucose monitor. If you have reasons why your nutritionist or your doctor wants you to track glucose, perhaps you're a diabetic, then well, you may already have a glucose monitor, but you can get one for that and your insurance will probably cover it. But the ketone blood monitors are too expensive and they break too easily. The machine itself I found to be an absorbable expense; it may not be for everyone. The strips will bankrupt you. You may have numerous times a day where you need to know how changes in your diet are affecting your ketones and that adds up fast when each strip is a dollar and you have to buy them $50 at a time.

Follow a ketogenic carnivore diet for mental health and it really has made all the difference. I've been ketogenic for 7 years now. If I accidentally go over 5-10g of carbs I see symptoms return.

Most of you will notice an increased appetite on antipsychotics. The key is to taper off your meds and research keto based food and modulate your diet accordingly. I also take supplements. Research these. I am 3m 11d on this treatment. In the last two weeks I have hardly any symptoms. I was having three episodes a week on meds. 1~2 over the last three months. Much improved. Give it a try!

I took some shrooms in March .. probably two grams, tripped out some on them then went back to normal by the end of the night. Two months later I started tripping out oh no where losing my mind ( first of psychosis ) I blame the shrooms as they can increase your risk of developing schizophrenia and etc.

Ok, so a bit of improvements: There is such a thing as psychologic programming (of the schizophrenic or schizophrenicabout). Lauren is in the background and has various emotional dynamics and some way of nodding (in the background ring, and a ring is lots of information content). while the frontal guy watches (so She is secondary background information to the viewers).

Has anyone been able to find this one page hand out Dr. P mentions at 19:58? I figure this video was posted ~9 months ago, and I'm finding his website doesn't show other things he mentioned in another video, ie a list of dietitians who know about/trained in medical ketosis implementation. If anyone reading this can reply with a link...I'm looking for the hand out, a psychiatrist and dietitian for my son who is, right now, being assessed because he had a psychotic episode. Thank you to anyone that reaches out with a response.

Hi Lauren. Greetings from Denmark. Im so amazed about this information and the stories of people healing. Ive been following your channel since I was diagnosed with Paranoid Psychosis. I had psychosis but not in quite the same way as skizofrenia. My meds and treatment though are the same as skizofrenia. I want to try out the diet as I think I might have problems from being almost diagnosed with pcos and have slow metabolism. Can you say anything about how this treatment is relevant for people with diagnosis similar to skizofrenia?

It’s interesting when he says symptoms. The question looms is he referring to negative symptoms. The extreme “dearth” lack of “symptoms” lack of outward expression. I understand this diet is used for stability in epilepsy but the question is if it affects the negative symptom levels in schizotypy, instability in marijuana induced schizoaffective issues, deficit schizophrenia and have an effect on social cognition, even go so far as to treat the psychopathologies of anhedonia and addiction thinking that accumulate.

I've come to the conclusion that the reason the keto diet works is not the ketones, but because it provides the exact two nutrients needed for sufficient seratonin/dopamine synthesis: tryptophan from high protein diet, and butyrate from low carb vegetable fiber to absorb and transport said tryptophan.
