This is a true analog gauge cluster, or instrument pack as it is called in Jaguar books. Sometimes, the cluster on later XJ40 is called analog, but it is 100% digital, with stepper motors making the needles move, just like in year 2000 and up cars. In this one, it is 100% analog, with bi-metal, heating elements and/or a magnetic field pushing against a spring.

I have an 88 with a faulty temperature guage. I grounded the wire and it didnt more. It will read hotter than my other XJ-S' but the temperature readings on my laser thermometer are the same. Does the temperature guage work the same as the other guages?

Hi Adam I have a 1992 VDP and the temp gauge always shows above average. I replaced the fan clutch, thermostat, anti freeze, etc... Is it the gauge ?

Hi have you checked the actual water temp at the top of the radiator with a mercury or spirit type thermometer ? Yes gauges get out of adjustment but also the sender unit can go off. My E Type Jag temp sender was the fault with the temp gauge being way out. Hope this helps. Good luck craig

Might be air flow restriction due to packed debris between a/c condenser and radiator
@craigmorton194416 күн бұрын
Yes clean out the debris and as I suggested manually check the coolant temp with a thermometer. At least then you can compare gauge reading to the thermometer reading. Best wishes and good luck craig
