The tour guide is useless. Sorry but the guide lied and misled you on so many things. He is deceitful and dishonest and advancing a political agenda rather than real history. 1. He has omitted the part about centuries of Arab and Persian slavery of Africans. 2. He has sheepishly lied to you about how Zanzibar got independence. It was after a very violent revolution led by John Okello - a Ugandan - who has now been struck out of Zanzibar approved history books. He led Africans to kick out Arabs after centuries of slavery and oppression. 3. He is lying to you about the power structure of Tanzania. zanzibar is an autonomous part of Tz but its president reports to Tanzania's president. Zanzibar president is the second vice president of the republic thus 3rd in command but has no power in the mainland. 4. As a paid tour guide, he does not need to tell you that he is proud of his arab religion or whatever god he believes in. That is unproffessional. 5. Most Zanzibaris ( 90%) are from mainland Tanzania tribes with the rest from Mozambique, Malawi, Congo and Burundi. They are 99% Bantu Africans. The rest is mixes of Arabs, Indians etc. It is these people who built Zanzibar but the tour guides go on and on about minute travellers and their enslavers as the people who built or discovered this and that. Seems to be a lack of proffessionalism and self-hate.

Lovely video. Although I always think to myself - yes the Architecture is Arabic or Indian - but the people who built those building were enslaved Africans. Just like the American White House was built by slaves. When those buildings went up the Africans weren't just sitting around eating mangoes and beating drums, they were bending their backs as skilled artisans who had the unique skills to mix cultural forms to create a cosmopolitan city-state. Much love to you guys.

Wonderful historical info and pictures. Quite enjoyed it. Have to agree alot of credit is given to the "discoverers" of places Vascos,Columbus etc.. yet they found people living on the land right? Why don't we re write these history books our kids learn to teach them of the people who lived on the land and then include the "discoverers " as guests on the land.😉 Just my far thought -out 2 cents. Thanks for sharing the vid though

The tour guide misleads you people,I don't know whether is lack of knowledge or intentional,yes there is president of Zanzibar but there is no president of Tanganyika,there is president of United republic of Tanzania who is responsible for Tanganyika and Zanzibar the fun enough is the current president is from Zanzibar so how can she be the president of Tanganyika only?
@LIVKENYA2 жыл бұрын
That's what the guide said. I also mentioned it in my previous episodes
@patiencerwiza30862 жыл бұрын
he was right on the fact that although the president of united republic of Tanzania should be in charge of both Tanganyika and Zanzibar but the actual fact is that he/she mostly become in charge of Tanganyika affairs and leave Zanzibar affairs to the President of Zanzibar its complicated the way it work

John Okello is the independent fighter of Zanzibar, Ugandan working in harbor mobilized masculine workers with military weapons and made that island free, they won't tell you that because it embarrassing the indigenous and his first name is not Arabic, , Viva John Okello
@iskiji12402 жыл бұрын
The real history of zanzibar revolution is complicated. okello and other 'manambas' were recruited to do things that natives couldnt do because of family ties. The real people behind the revolution were those who supplied guns to okello and co. There are many facts which prove that Nyerere had a hand in that revolution. I have read many books about the revolution and my conclusion is the revolution was carefully planned by people who didnt want to be blamed for it, thats why okello and co come into play.
@allenmaa70642 жыл бұрын
@@iskiji1240 A violent end to a civilization that enslaved Africans procured from the interior - that lasted a thousand years seems just to me. As an African. Period.
