So I'm 34 this year and all my life I've known Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz. Separately I had only heard the trolley song from The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode with Rosie O'Donnell. I had never known that Judy Garland sing that song in Meet Me in st. Louis all this time. As recently as a few weeks ago a friend ended up putting on the real song but just the clip from the movie on KZbin. I grew up playing big band music in high school and am very fond of that era. So naturally seeing and hearing the real song just blew me away. I can't get that song out of my head and my heart now and probably won't. I'm then today watching a bunch of KZbin videos of Judy on the Jack Paar or Johnny Carson shows and learning about her devastating backstory. That aside I randomly just find out right now after all this time that the director of Meet Me In St Louis ended up having a baby with Judy Garland and naming her Liza Minnelli whom ended up marrying the son of the Tin Man. Like WTF X 1000!!!!

@klassicalmuzik7 ай бұрын
@@raea3588 actually no, the scene where Dorothy gets carried off by the monkeys was not Judy. It was her stand in Bobbie Koshay. They shot the scene almost from the back to hide her face so that the audience wouldn’t know it wasn’t Judy. MGM wouldn’t have risked Judy doing that stunt, not so much because they cared about her safety, but because if Judy got hurt the picture would’ve been shut down until she recovered and that would’ve cost them more money. The two actors playing the monkeys who carried Dorothy away did however get injured when the wires snapped and they fell. I don’t believe the stand in Bobbie Koshay got injured though.

I think "The Wizard of Oz" is one of the most frightening movies ever made--but I always liked the tornado. I wonder if the people involved in its production had any idea that people would be so affected by the movie. Lorna Luft here gives a brief but excellent analysis of "The Wizard of Oz", explaining why the film is more than just a scary, sometimes heart-wrenching story but one that has a message about home and heart and facing fears and that lifts people up.

@@Halfscotboy_39 Bill Cosby played the Wizard of Oz in a live action framing sequence that was added when the film was first shown on television. For contractual reasons, the Cosby segments could not be repeated after the second showing, so they were reshot with Milton Berle instead, though apparently the Cosby scenes were used again later when the film was shown in syndication. The theme of the Wizard of Oz or the meaning behind it, is everyone wants to leave home and go to a place that is exciting and adventurous and risky. But there are hidden dangers and risks waiting for you when you do this. Dorothy realizes that her home and family was safe. Also she had the love of her family. Being in a forbidden place of decadence and immorality the fun only lasts a small time. As she quotes, "There is no place like home".

Aunt Elm will just hand the dog over again . Bad plot line a lot of corn . Dorothy didn’t leave home due to being ungrateful she left to protect Toto .
