I'll be turning 43 in a few days. Single, still figuring out who I am and what I want. Life is about the journey, not the destination. I don't have everything figured out, and I don't want to. Good friends, good food, good stories, that's what I want out of life.

I don't know who's giving you all of these "stereotypes" and "cliche's" but most people aren't even starting true adulthood/life until they hit their early thirties. Ie having an idea of career direction, STARTING the process of finding a serious partner/spouse, kids, houses, etc etc etc I'm turning 40 a day after PM and I still have friends who are navigating these decisions! Just live your life however you want that makes you happy, there's no such thing as a "traditional way" unless you are talking about 1950's tv shows. And the I wish I would have worked less people are in the catch 22 category of didn't make enough money to experience financial freedom... I wish I could work less but I need to get to the financial freedom part before that's possible!

great comment. as someone who comes from a small town, where people usually “settle down” by 22, it’s refreshing to read. took some traveling for me to understand that life isn’t a race, that we all have our own pace, and no one finishes in first second or last place. much love.

People are busy trying “figure themselves out” and these stereotypes aren’t what is peddled. What is peddled is individualism, self discovery and pursuit of self gratification. Going on a merry go round for 15-20 years trying to figure out the crux of your purpose is nicely buttered up way of going on an aimless self gratifying journey. Fact is, civilisation, commerce and legacy is just as if not more important. Contributing and building grass roots communities, building resilient families, and engaging in wealth building is the basic building blocks of what makes society function. If people stopped bsing around in late teens, and twenties, they’d be much more gratified, instead of wasting a good amount of the most effective and vibrant parts of their life trying to chase a morbidly philosophical question of their purpose, when the tools they are equipped with through their lives are a bunch of subjective ill defined parameters of how to find happiness. The fact that society and general conditioning pokes you that something is wrong with not being conformed to the “traditional” and you’re actively using the very “subjective” tools you’ve been taught all your life to run away from the reality, and embracing an individualist self gratifying outlook on life, you’ve already applied a meta narrative of happiness whilst asserting that meta narratives of traditionalism is what is the problem. Also, life is not long, is short af, you spend most of it sleeping. Be an effective contributor of society, not chasing your purpose in your 40s. Grass is not greener on the other side.

Turning 30 was stressful! Good news is I grew more as a person from 38-42 than I did from 25-38. As a career person, it was stressful having kids later (have a 4&5yo) but was a great decision to wait. Will not gloss over it is way harder and stressful, but I think my wife and I are very happy with the ultimate timing. 20’s are finding out what’s out there 30’s are figuring out what you can do (what’s possible) with all you’ve found and figured out 40’s so far is finally becoming comfortable with who you are as you are today… it’s my favorite decade so far 🥂 I heard a helpful quote a while ago that effectively said: think about what you’d like to be doing in your 80’s and 90’s and be sure what you’re doing now is serving that person you want to be 😊 Happy almost birthday! 🎉🥂

I am 61 and left my high paying stable job at 59 to become a professional photographer. It doesn't even feel like work anymore. My generation put too much pressure on our children to achieve success and that drives many of the thoughts you are experiencing. For example, we created a system where you can't be successful without college and that is not true at all. We did it out of love and hope for our children's future not realizing that we were making life more difficult. We were the generation who's grandparents went through great hardship so we looked at the world differently. My advice is to make as many memories as possible. That is the secret to a longer life. You past is very compressed and forgettable without those memories so let that be your measure of success and you will have a wonderful life. Oh also......30 is not old, and never be terrified at being older. Many have lost that opportunity. I promise that someday you will realize how young 30 really is. Treasure those birthdays!

At 50, I had a couple life changing events. And I realized I was wrong about many things. Doesn’t mean those years were a waste. But I realized over life we restart many times. We change. We grow. We learn. Sometimes we cry and grieve and take a step backwards. And then we try to move forward again. Plus, aging isn’t for wimps because while all the emotional and life events are going on, we’re also dealing with an aging body and it’s challenges. Now I’m getting closer to 60… egads. Someone recently said to me I have 20 good summers left if I’m lucky. I have more planned than I could possible do or afford in 20 years. I’m suddenly sifting through to see which are the things I really want to achieve and what is most important. So that’s why you hear about older folks talking about prioritizing what’s most important… because life’s brevity hits you in the face like a brick when 60 comes crawling around. Nice video. It’s good to assess now and then… just don’t let it overwhelm you. Take it in small chunks. A little ramble… but hopefully this makes sense.

Surrounding yourself with like minded people is the best thing you can do, I have never felt any pressure to do anything. My wife and I already traveled for 6 months in our early 20s and just finished a 2.5 year travel adventure where I turned 30, 31 and 32. Best decision ever and like you have said you don't want to look back on your life on your death bed and think you should have chosen differently. You will only regret the things you haven't done. Live life and let 'people' talk.

Going from a steady career of 10 years to jumping into starting a media production company and not knowing if it would work out. Time is an illusion, these things that you are "supposed" to do are made up so others can feel better about their own choices. For me the key is happiness. Life is an adventure that didn't come with a timeline or plan. It's your life, live it your way. I met my now wife at 36, and we got married this year. Im 41 and starting new careers. There are no set rules for how you have to be or what you have to do.

I think having kids is like running into the sea. You're sunbathing on the warn sand and everything is amazing but you see other people in the sea and it feels like they're somehow coping with the cold. You eventually run into the sea, it's a massive shock for a very short moment but you realise the two temperatures are irrelevant, it's not actually cold, it's just different and it takes a second to adjust. Most people are super happy they decided to go in BUT it's also totally cool to stay sunbathing on the sand. Hope you have an amazing birthday.

Where? The part where she decides to go on a trip instead of putting the down payment on a house? No matter what popular KZbinr say people just respond in the affirmative. "You go girl, I am 75 and living off welfare while the cost of houses is skyrocketing every year, take your time girl it's not like prices are going anywhere, as for a good man we all know they are a dime a dozen too. In fact the older you get the more of them just start showing up at your door. Do you think you have choices now? Just wait until you hit 60?"

I’m 55 and after listening to the first part of this video I’m laughing. “Settling down” is the biggest mistake you could make. You don’t get the time back. Learn the difference between commitment and growth. If you decide to have kids, make the commitment to raise them right. But for your whole life, allow yourself to grow and experience life. Allow yourself to change direction. If you spend your whole life doing something unfulfilling and on your deathbed wish that you had done something else you are screwed. You don’t get a redo. The people making you think these things are expected of you are leading you down the wrong road, so ignore them.

Holy sh*t, I’d only gone broke ONCE by the age of 30! Bless the good old days. I didn’t really get my shit together until about 40. No, 45. Okay, 50. Two divorces later, many failures, and two major financial collapses later, I’m finally with the perfect partner, I have my money sorted, and I’m doing what I truly love. Life can begin whenever you decide. And you can do that again and again and again. My dad is still growing and developing at 87. Life is good. Life will get even better. Ignore the stereotypes. They’re full of shit. 💕 PS. Re kids - having one (or more) is the BEST thing I’ve ever done. I’ve had many titles in life, but my favourite remains ‘Dad’.

I agree turning 30 puts a lot of pressure to be “settled and to be making all the right decisions” but that’s a societal myth to distract us. I’m about to turn 62 and I feel healthy and strong and creative as I ever have. Yes certain things are “settled” but I also look at unsettling them too. The only constant is change. Helps to not forget that. Also I reconnected with my teen first love after 32 years and we’re having the time of our lives. Mostly by not having rules of being settled and figured out. Life is about the journey not the destination. And you don’t get to take any of this with you. Love every second, it’s only here once.

I’m about to launch a podcast about finding success after 35 because I agree that there’s a lot of pressure to have everything figured out by a certain age. Success means different things to different people so I’ll be taking it down different avenues, but my personal goal is financial freedom and I’m hoping my experience will help other people to realise that age doesn’t matter when chasing your dreams ☺️

First off, why are people so worried about the number. Why does everyone put so much into where you should be at a certain number? Just do what the fu&^ you wanna do. Work hard, play hard. Keep the people around you that are successful and like minded. Being "old' is a feeling that is up to you. Stay healthy and do all the things you wanna do no matter if you are 30, 40 , 50 OR 60+. It's what keeps you feeling good and moving forward. Age should NEVER stop you.

I think many of us are taught we have to be a certain way or already have it all figured out fresh out of high school but the truth is, we need to break that cycle. We can’t allow ourselves to be pressured into what everyone else thinks we should be. It’s impossible to have it all figured out especially when you are young and still have a whole life ahead to experience. Thats the way you gonna figure things out by experiencing life and going on your own pace. I’m already 41 and still don’t have it all figured out 😂 and that’s ok. You live, continue learning to improve and enjoy life because we only get one.

What you are going through is normal. I’m in my 40s (turning 30 seems like a lifetime ago) . Time speeds up as you get older your 40s will arrive faster than your 30s did etc etc . The one thing I’d say is if you want kids make it a focus. I’ve seen so many of my friends leave it too late. Career matters so much less to most once you hit 40 especially once kids come along. All the best in whichever path you choose.

Having kids & family > career. If you don’t realize that now. You will when you’re 40-50-60 and it’s too late. You can still do things you want to when you have kids. You can’t always have kids after you’ve done everything on your bucket list. It’s not a “societal construct” it’s mostly a biological construct that we have acknowledged. But, to each their own!

no offence, but your perspective of 30 is....older than I am. I'm 53 and I've got nothing figured out, every day is a new adventure and change is the only constant. Happiness is like liquid, Best of luck with this new chapter, but just know that wisdom is experience based. People who've been through it can tell you the same thing until they're blue in the face, but you have to live it, to experience it first hand for those lessons to connect. Young people are so quick to dismiss age and wisdom as "boomers" but there are some cultures who appreciate their elders because of that life experience. The last thing a 20 year knows is how their life is going to pan out before having really left the nest. I wish you well Lizzie, you're a beautiful bright light full of endless potential.

I would suggest you buy that house instead of that trip because you aren't still in your 20s and lack wisdom. Unless you didn't lack wisdom and just didn't want to invest more in the relationship and use the trip as a side screen to hide the fact you wanted the relationship to end

Hahaha, that rubbish at the beginning was ridiculous. Also, newsflash, it’s not the most amount of money you’ll ever earn.

You do you Lizzie, I know there was a curve ball thrown you’re way, but that can happen to anyone. Learn something new every day, enjoy what you do. Screw what other people think, at the end of the day if you are happy than that’s all that really matters. I’ve changed careers a couple times. Just turned 40 and some days I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up! 😂

No one is. Those expectations were from the early 1960s when America was at its strongest economic point and the mentality was the most conservative ever.

Girl, your 20s are the WORST years. Everything is so much better after 30. And NOBODY knows what’s going on. I’m 38 and I’m still trying to figure it out. Just like everyone else. 30 is an amazing place to keep growing.

I cannot wait until you make a video about the same thing when you're 40 then 50 and 60. I'll be dead by then but girl - perspective.....

I am not sure what makes you entitled to talk about the ideas in heads and the stereotypes you mentioned However I sympathize with you on an end to your marriage But I suppose you need to talk to Therapist rather than have a sad lovers rant ona KZbin channel on which most of us come for your professional part of life and not to be your personal ear to be lent I hope you can move on from your broken marriage and have an adults life rather than being adolescent and have a rant on public platform

So, here's a "real life" example: In my 20s, I had my children. In my 30s, I spent time in the corporate world, learning skills. In my 40s, I moved my family, farm, and businesses almost 1,000 miles for a complete lifestyle and career change, and began working for myself. At 55, I planted a vineyard. A 60, I opened a winery. What's left for my 60s, 70s, and beyond? God only knows--but I'll bet it'll be exciting...🫵😉
I WISH THIS CAMERA NEVER EXISTED (and other hot takes)...
