Enjoy the rants, but as an A6600 owner, let me justify… I used to own an A6000 which I loved for travel. Also own a A7iii. Having a aps-c with a viewfinder, ibis, and the same awesome battery as it’s big brother is so nice. The crop means my FF 70-200 becomes a 105-300 for those wildlife shots. A6600 can also use the line of smaller, sometimes lighter, and cheaper lenses… again so nice for travel. Anyway for me it’s all about the battery and size.

My take on some photographers (I have pretty much used my own for like 5 years) using presets from others is kinda like shooting with film. It gets you a look you want. no one who shot film and preferred XYZ film had to learn every in and out of why Portra 400 looks the way it does VS something like ektar 100 or another film. you pick what you like and shoot it. for those of us who love to nerd out on the why. we can. but if someone wants to just take pictures with their friends with something nicer than a cell phone and have their shots look a certain way I say go for it!

Preach girl!!! 🤘😎🤘 I’ve been in this business for 28 years professionally as my only source of income and I still feel like that 23 year old version of myself that like to debate topics is still here today. When people have a technical question, I always asked to show the image you’re talking about. They never show it. People of asking me gear questions I ask them why? They never have an answer. Knowledge is everything when you have the correct gear for the job… You can do anything! Life goal: meeting you, Chris and the rest of the gang if you all are ever in New Orleans for Mardi Gras or just a Vacay look me up. I’ll be happy to show you around 😎 Happy new year !!

As a ZV-E10 shooter, you're 100% correct! The rolling shutter is pretty bad at 4K, so I basically need to use a tripod, a gimbal and Catalyst Browse for cleaner results. 😅 Don't get me wrong, however! As a newcomer, I'm enjoying the learning experience with the ZV-E10 in spite of its limitations. I'm still learning the workarounds with it, so I'll stick with APS-C for now until I can afford to pick up an FX30 or the A7000 once Sony announces a release date for the latter. Excellent work as always, Lizzie! Wishing you and Chris a wonderful 2023! 😊

I find my self very well with a6600+18-105+35/1.8 i am wondering if i will pass to a a7r5 with 24-105 or similar. For me matters to have my target reachable in 1-2sec. And have my gear always on my sleeve bag. The only things i will improve on my a6600 are higher megapixels to have better crop and better performance on low light but i most of tge time manage to shoot handheld 1/2sec-1/15 on the wide18(24eq) or 1/30sec-1/100sec on the tele 105(135eq) thanks to habits and ibis. Compliments for the content, i like the illumination, Max

Presets are such a game changer for me. I’m learning & know the look 8’ going for but can’t always figure out how to get there as I’m editing videos. And honestly, I’d spend way too much time researching HOW to do those things when I can simply support other creators by purchasing presets that work for me. Efficiency!
@nothingtobeconcernedabout74772 жыл бұрын
The only issue is that if you take the a7c you get also a cam that could need a new version and you have to get the more expensive FF lenses... always calculate in the increased cost of getting FF lenses when talking about sensor size. I do agree with the ZV-E10. Instead of the a7c I would have suggested the FX30 for those who want to do mostly video. I think it is time to replace "gear doesn't matter" with saying "you don't always need the latest and best gear" (like you mentioned), especially if you are not a professional. The fixing it in post is stupid, because I specifically dial it down when shooting to have a better base to work with in post... it would be cheating only if you entered a competition that specifically says no post processing...

haha, Chris has his hands full. 🤣🤣 Kidding obvs... Sometimes we need this kind of wit. Honesty, I think, is much more important. Thanks for this Lizzie. Y'all are awesome!!

I definitely agree with the statement that Gear does matter. We all know this. There are times you gotta do rhe work and you just have to use the tools you have and so in that regard the statement also stands, that gear doesn't matter. I will agree to dissagree about the SONY a6600, not that I dissagree with your logic about stepping up to full frame for a couple hundred bucks because, hellooooo.. full frame? In fact we could even talk about the Lumix S5II 👀 or NOT, everyone else is already doing that ....but , all that said, there are loooots of cameras, or even even tools for that matter, that really anoy me personally because they might fall short of my needs or expectations, or they seem to serve redundant utility. When I see this I only lament if I am left in between wanting. I still often recognise there are some people for whom, they are perfectly suited. I deffinitly appreciate the capabilities of the a6600 over that $900 camera, what ever it was 😉, at least for the autofocus and ibis. Rant away though. It's good to get it all out before moving on to 2023. It's going to be crazy new year of exciting changes for many. ....as for the presets argument, this is one of those things you just don't need to justify or defend, I mean, you don't even need talk about why they are a thing. Those who do have deep fundimental understanding of image making and have developed a process start to finish of capturing files that compliment and empower their post processing may never need some one else's presets but for a beginner or someone looking to step up their work, presets are a fantastic tool to gage their capture process and develope better understanding for the capabilities of post processing tools . I applaud you for sharing this with developing and even working professionals as both an efficiency and a learning tool. I think you could really do allot to help lots of young creatives understand the capture process better with a series on how to capture for production of working files. Starting with when to shoot raw and why, or maybe why not? When to use longer exposures at lower ISO on a tripod for higher resolution print work. When to push in camera to protect highlights. How to produce a "flater" image with more data or detail for more dynamic manipulation in post. I know there are lots of courses already, I don't think market saturation is ever a deterent to offering a better more efficient product though and I think you would be a great teacher and mentor to get new shooters and those improving their game to that next level with a series that offers fundamentals for those who might have jumped in and learned what they know without that guidance and it might be a nice remedial review, for some who could use a shift in perspective. I know how deeply impacting it was for me in high-school, Extended Media was the course and all of the things I learned and explored seemed to play and feed right into intuition I felt like I already had, it just made so much more sense to heat it articulated and to work on capture exercises. ......and now I am rambling so I will stop. If all this feedback is TMI please feel free to send me a message, I don't mean to overshare, but I sometimes do. 😖 I appreciate you Lizzie, Chris too. Best wishes for 2023!🎊

I think that, back in the day, the A6000 and RX100 were so good that the consecutive upgrades, incremental or otherwise, made those cameras wildly expensive compared to the competition. Great camera but if I were buying I’d probably look at a used A7, Panasonic S5, Fujifilm XT-4 or new Nikon Z5 for around the same money as an A6600 kit.

@@TheArtofKAS yeah, it works pretty well for me right now but I might upgrade in the future. I feel like the gear debate is more focused on knowledge and lens than the actual body. It took me a while to get the hang of doing lowlight or night photos with the a6600 but I learned how to make it work. You definitely need to know the lens too cause using a prime or a wide lens for wildlife or sports photography definitely won’t cut it plus the apertures of the lens.

@@bigshooter461 not looking for new cameras yet but Panasonic isn’t on the top of my list
@bigshooter4612 жыл бұрын
@@jirwin.mp4 I can appreciate that, I don't think Panasonic is a brand on many people's list to be honest but it has always been a manufacture that pops up in my periphery. Autofocus has always been a bit of an Achilles Heel for them with video this new camera looks increadibly promising for a $1900 Full Frame body with ibis, Phase detect, 6k, and lots of decent frame rates. I like that it also has anamorphic settings. There is lots to love. There are lots of new videos singing ot's praises, so you can see all that for yourself. Panasonic first grabbed my attention back when I was shooting to tape and they came out with AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 Camcorder. Panasonic never really marketed as strong as Canon or Nikon and now Sony, but if you spend enough time around professionals who demand alot from their gear you start to see more and more Panasonic equipment out there. I'm not trying to sell you. I'm just saying, it may not be on your list, but if you have a budget, and still need performance, that Lumix S5II is one of those cameras that you can bet is going to make a mark this coming year.

I was waiting to upgrade to the camera that would be the a6600 from the a6000… But there was nothing there that made it significantly better than the a6400… in a way that I could see an advantage (yes now I’m putting IBIS into my list of future camera requirements)… so I went for the a6400… They had so many things they could have added on for relatively low changes, heck I know that the pixel shift tech has only just got good now, but why they didn’t put it in the a6600 I don’t know… or at least two card slots… But in 2022 they need so much more… Here’s hoping for an a1apsc or the ilk…
