I'm a man in his mid-60s who heard this on my daughter's Spotify playlist and was moved to tears by its seemingly light-hearted pathos. The human condition: we don't reach for what we really desire out of fear of rejection. I'm close to being out of time, but crave the same things the singer does: love, connection, and intimacy. A number of years ago, I was traveling alone on an airplane to go see family. I've traveled on planes before, but the turbulence on this flight was ESPECIALLY bad, to the point that I thought my life would be ending in a crash. I still had my phone in airplane mode, but still, I decided to email my parents. I told them I was sorry for all my mistakes and wrongdoings. I said I was sorry that they never got to see me graduate university or walk me down the aisle. I said I forgave my siblings and that I wanted to be cremated, etc. When the plane landed safely, my parents got the message and apparently, they thought I had been joking, as that message was very out of the blue. When I explained, they chuckled at my silliness and told me that they were glad I was alive.
