Lyrics 💗💗 You say there's so much you don't know You need to go and find yourself You say you'd rather be alone 'Cause you think you won't find it tied to someone else Ooh, who said it's true That the growing only happens on your own? They don't know me and you I don't think you have to leave If to change is what you need You can change right next to me When you're high, I'll take the lows You can ebb and I can flow And we'll take it slow And grow as we go Grow as we go You won't be the only one I am unfinished, I've got so much left to learn I don't know how this river runs But I'd like the company through every twist and turn Ooh, who said it's true That the growing only happens on your own? They don't know me and you You don't ever have to leave If to change is what you need You can change right next to me When you're high, I'll take the lows You can ebb and I can flow And we'll take it slow And grow as we go Grow as we go Grow as we go Grow as we go I don't know who we'll become I can't promise it's not written in the stars But I believe that when it's done We're gonna see that it was better That we grew up together Tell me you don't wanna leave 'Cause if change is what you need You can change right next to me When you're high, I'll take the lows You can ebb and I can flow We'll take it slow And grow as we go Grow as we go Grow as we go Grow as we go

I heard this song right before a man I loved migrated from the Philippines to Canada. We both feared the idea of a cross-continental LDR, so we ended things a week before his flight. This song turned things around for us and we got back together. I shared a good two years with him and I loved him with all my being. He was my first. He was home. And it gutted me when, one year ago, he said he'd rather we grow apart. Sometimes, I still think of him. When I pass by our old haunts, I find myself recalling our better days. It used to hurt being just a memory to him and vice versa, but I can be content with that now. It's better this way. Our time is long gone and I deserve better. So does he.

So happy you've made your peace with what happened. Sending you a hug!
@melissamacaraig77582 жыл бұрын
Just like mine. My ex and I had to break up because he also needs to go to Canada. The difference is we both know it won't work (LDR) and we might end up hating each other. We need to grow apart and if someday, if it happens that we meet each other again we would definitely give it a try. 😊☺️ The thing is, when we know that its genuine and unconditional love even if it hurts, we release them with grace. We allow them and ourselves to grow ❤️

Oh my goodness, I wish that I had heard this song last year. But God has got me and has been growing me and I have to lay down my regrets at His feet and my past that I can’t edit. I can see God’s hand through it though and can be thankful for it when I remember things about the past. It’s hard to let go, but when I do and choose to accept Jesus’ grace, words, and love for me and stop beating myself up with shame and lies, I know that life and life abundant will what I experience.

This is so incredibly beautiful, and as someone that has just reached the 10 year mark of being with a partner, it's so important to grow together *and* separately. Growth and change are part of life, and while uncomfortable is so necessary for a relationship to last. Find someone that encourages you to grow and accepts your encouragement to grow into the best versions of yourselves.

I found this song by chance when I was compiling the wedding song list for me and my fiancée. Immediately got goosebumps and thought "this is us". The amount of shit we've dealt with since getting together is unbelievable. Still, I was unsure about putting it on the list because it starts in a seemingly bad place and was initially a breakup song, but in the end I put it there as a later track. I was supposed to walk down the isle to one of the wedding classics. Then on the wedding day, our music player malfunctioned - at first it wasn't playing at all and I thought, great, so we have no wedding music. Then at last it started playing, but the order of the tracks was all scrambled, and this song came out as the first one. I teared up and thought, okay, I guess it was meant to be. It was meaningful, heartfelt and perfect.
