"I Can't out bulldog a bulldog!" No truer words have been said. You have to "out brain" a bulldog.

Could you please explain how because I'm struggling.
@Acadian.FrenchFry

@@leoo5552 Simplest advice I could give you, is to be more determined than the bulldog and consistent and always think a step ahead. You give them any slack or opportunity they will take it. Be loving and fair always, but just be as consistent and don't give in or slack off. Be a good parent and always think a step ahead of your bulldog or else you could set them up to fail.

I'm a proud mama of 103lb Alapaha American Bulldog,he rescued us in 2017 . The dogs are so Strong,smart,loyal,loving and let's not forget stubborn at times. Bubba is the light in our lives. Although I had to admit it has not been the easiest road with him and we are still working on things!! Thanks for the video!! Any help here is greatly appreciated! 😉 New subscriber!

Hi Larry, this type of content is golden. I work with dogs at an animal shelter, about half of the dogs we get are completely untrained. Seeing the steps and the strategies you use to build trust and improve the “live(with)ability” of these difficult dogs is incredibly valuable. You say often in your videos that you hope it will help even one person. You have definitely helped me and more importantly you have helped many dogs that have passed though our shelter. Thank you, I hope you keep filming.

Larry, GREAT VIDEO! I am a dog trainer at an Animal Shelter in California and, we often get young, large unruly dogs relinquished to the shelter that bite at the leash. It is so beneficial to see how you work with this kind of dog and the progression that you make in REAL time. I am often under a time crunch to get these dogs under control, so for me this is a perfect topic! Thank you!!!!!

I just don’t understand why people get these kind of power breeds and don’t immediately start the pecking order and boundaries! You can not immediately coo and spoil these kinds of dogs they have to earn it and maintain the “privilege”. Not saying don’t love them but they need more structure. They should have started this basic stuff long ago. Great job!

True! That’s exactly how people get themselves or others injured or killed. Dogs only understand absolutes just as their ancestors and wild counterparts do in the wild. I gear up and wrestle my dogs down after some bite work (In a semi playful way) at least a few times a week to remind them who’s in charge. They also never walk in front of me or enter/exit a doorway in front of me. They follow me around and wait for commands each and every time! I always remind people that large dogs are natural killers capable of taking a human life in mere seconds. Maintaining control is not an option.

They usually just don't know any better. I was one of those people when I got my first power breed and the within a yr a 2nd, I had to learn the hard way cause I had no clue until it was dangerous. Luckily no one ever got injured by them, except one little dog got killed but by no fault of ours. The dog was running loose while we were out walking and it thought why not run up in the face of that pitbull...she shook it and dropped it and it was over in seconds. I felt horrible. Having to talk to the neigh or about it. But yeah...I wasn't raised around dogs and you'd be surprised at how ignorant people can be unknowingly yet still believe they are doing the best.

Teach the listen command by putting bits of hotdog in your mouth. Say listen then when the dog looks at you spit the piece of food in the dogs mouth. Do it as soon as they look at first then make them focus a little longer after maybe a week. Start with very little distraction then add it in during walks. My dobie Shepherd mix has the same issues with focus and this has been really helping. I got the tip from the schutzhund club I started taking him to. I wish I would have taught that sooner.

It meant that he understood his dogs would be outclassed very quickly if things went wrong. The Alapaha is Not a normal dog. It, in fact, is not a pet breed. You have to be an SS tier owner/handler to even Think of owning one.

It's the leash, he is leash excitable. I had a dog that was like that so I want to see how you get him to stop biting the leash and barging the door when he is on leash. He would probably learn fast from watching a trained calm dog or maybe not but I'd like to see how to do this without another dog.

We adopted an 11 month old 1/2 Alapaha Blue Blood (Dam) and English Bulldog (Sire) from my son, who had issues with Chewy and his other dogs. I was a little worried since we also had an English Bulldog that was 10 at the time. There was some issues in the beginning, however after doing some research I found one thing that help was for my wife and I to take both on walks together. The Idea behind this was to start introducing our new member as part of the pack. After only a few walks we no longer had any issues with Chewy being aggressive towards Mack. One thing for sure is if your going to own a Alapaha Bulldog you must be consistent in your training, they DO NOT respond to physical discipline, they are strong willed and very smart. If you take the time to train them properly you'll have a wonderful dog and great protector of ones household.

Just watching in the first minute lol. What a beauty he is. Love the size, and whole appearance. Reminds me of a puppy's first time or first few times not being use to a leash. Funny to see a big horse like this reacting to a leash that way. Having lost the best dog I've ever had (APBT/French Mastiff - 75/25% cross), @11 to Nerve Degen and Cancer this past July, I'm just about ready to try and fill the open position with another big guy like this. Have interest in the American Bulldog types, as one of a few I'll be considering. Thanks for the clip, I'll watch the rest of this, and check your others to see if I might learn something.

this is exactly what we (viewers, pet dog owners) need! :) what a gorgeous boyy! he probably saw that leash as a tug toy :) he's probably thinking ohh that leash i'm coming for that sucker.. and then the handler freaks and the leash swings a bit and he might be all about ohh yeahh that's what i'm supposed to do! i'm coming at you damned leash! i swear ill get you! and then he pulls it and the handler pulls back there you have a tug of war and they get so much reward off of it... My dog wanted to do the same but we had already thought her tug of war and release, so when she took that leash we told her to release, because it's not a toy. and eventually she got the hang of that. We're both learning along the way it's my first own dog, we've had many dogs growing up as a kid but I really underestimated what was required to handle a young stressed puppy (she was put in ER 3 times the first 2 weeks because of stress as it got to her stomach to the point she was not keeping anything in including water), i had an image in my mind that was far from reality so i can't imagine what it's like for people having a dog for the first time in their life and handling them wrongly because of ignorance and just not knowing any better.

This is good! Thank you for doing this video. Please keep posting. This is how we learn. My guy Brutus he's a rott doesn't like a leash either. I get a similar reaction when trying to work with him on leash. I know it is completely my fault. I mostly worked off leash with him. No steering wheel. He is great off leash. He listens to commands I can take this dog anywhere but he's not great on leash. He hates the corrections. Which is not even a tap. I think he's a little bit of a sis. Lol!! No really , i think it annoys him. I have 2 pups I'm making sure get leash time so I don't have this issue when they are big. Easier to teach leash work young.

Yes, I think he gets excited by the leash he wants to play tug!! My Jack Russell growls the same way when playing tug. Although she is not as serious of a dog! You are doing great!! One way I've used to stop leash biting, is to use a chain leash, not as fun to bite as the leather. At least until you have the relationship built up.
@Arhan28
@Arhan28 5 жыл бұрын
A chain leash sometimes causes them to go for the handle rather then the leash, not great. Plus if they paw down the leash like in the video they can hurt their paw in a big way. Doesn't always work.... I'm curious to see if this dog gets over the leash issues as my shepherd was the same way. I ended up having to use a prong to get her to walk. I then fenced in the yard as I think the leash frustrated her on potty runs. Things are better but I don't 100% trust her on leash yet....
@jeffegg2
@jeffegg2 5 жыл бұрын
@@Arhan28 He's already over the leash issue. Once you have that relationship going, they will listen and not bite the leash. I bought chain leashes when my pup wanted to bite my good latigo leather leash, but only needed it for about a week.
