I'm so glad to see people doing more to help dogs stay in their homes. I worked in rescue for a few years. I have 5 of my own, all rescues in their own way. I have never met a dog who didn't deserve every opportunity to stay with it's family. People don't seem to understand that it's their own failings that lead to dogs in shelters and being rehomed. Very often it's simply that they're too lazy. It requires walking away from screens and focusing on someone else's needs for a while and actually paying attention. Committing and following through are hard for some people. It's just easier to give up and make it someone else's problem or murder and innocent animal that no one bothered to care enough about. I'm right there with you. That's why I'm here after another dog fight trying to learn more. Our situation isn't ideal. I don't have a lot of money. But, I understand that this is a human world and dogs don't instinctively know how to navigate it. We don't give them enough time with their mothers for them to even learn the basics. When we adopt them we adopt that responsibility also. Nobody tells you that. It's committing to doing whatever it takes and then doing it, NO MATTER WHAT! Thank you for being a voice for the voiceless ❤

I just began using an e collar two days ago, both at home and outside and have already began noticing a huge difference in his response to commands. With the help of your videos and I just ordered your book as well, I hope that him and I can soon understand each other and be on common grounds. Thanks, Larry!

I watch you like I'm in church! I am a 59 year old female with a 100lb 9 month old 1/2 dane, 1/2 st. bernard puppy. I have watched you over and over so I can learn to teach my girl how to behave, not pull me down and not run into traffic. She is still growing so I must start now. She is such a love bug and does listen to some commands, when she wants. I dream of walking her off lease but first she needs to behave on leash. I have had her since she was 7 weeks old and have never mastered the art of leash training, you truely have a gift Larry. I did look into a e-collar training course and it is 600 dollars for 4, one hour sessions. It does include the e-collar but I just don't have that kind of money. If I can't learn it to teach her, I will have to save some money because I want her to listen and be safe. Thank you Larry.............Mary

Larry is the zen master of e-collar training. I started following his training etiquette several years ago with my Rottweiler puppy Logan and following the methodology in his book I was able to develop a trust and a bond with Logan that was truly amazing. He’s a big strong determined rottie that can enjoy his freedom and safety at a level I would have never thought was possible prior to implementing Larry’s methods. Thanks for all you do. For those of us that are diligent with our training a truly beautiful relationship can be attained. This has been an absolute game changer in training and growing happy healthy dogs. Thank you Larry Krohn, I would love to meet you one day and express my sincere appreciation for the e-collar training and advocacy you’ve pioneered. Much much respect Larry, keep doing what you do!

Hi Adam. I’m curious as to what age you started the training. My girl is 6 months and loves training. I’m eager to get her started. She is well versed in basic commands. Also how is Logan currently and are you still using the collar. Thanks.
@shiftnsix2 жыл бұрын
@@Smuvbee74 I introduced the e-collar at around 6 months. If your pup is responsive to training and eager at 6 months, I think it’s a great time to get started. The key is taking it very slowly and at the lowest stimulation level that she responds to. I now have a girl as well and she was less receptive to the e collar at first. But now she’s a pro too. Different dog, different temperament equals different approach. There are a number of methods you can implement to train your dog with the e collar. Larry’s methods have been the best by far. Just remember baby steps. Test the collar on your wrist and you’ll see that it’s barely palpable at around 8-12 and most dogs will respond in that range. Test it when your pup is relaxed and watch for an ear twitch (like a fly landing on it) type of faint ear twitch and try to stick to that low level. I’ve only had to use high levels on a few occasions when his safety was at risk. Logan is now 4 years old and he’s an AKC good citizen. I don’t need the e collar for the most part for him to respond to commands now. But I still use it religiously when we are out off leash. It’s nice to know it’s there when you need it. That said though, there is no substitute for pinch collar training early on. You need to commingle the collars for a while (food rewards lots of praise etc) and eventually you can transition to strictly e-collar, and eventually with years of obedience your girl should get conditioned to the point where she just listens. You need to learn as much as your girl does so take it easy, be patient and the relationship will grown in time. Best of luck to you Bruce, and congratulations on the new puppy! If you haven’t bought Larry’s book yet, I highly recommend it. You can learn all you need from his KZbin videos, but the book ties it all together in a really concise way. You will make mistakes, don’t beat yourself up over them. In the long run you’re gunna cultivate a truly wonderful relationship with your dog if you stay diligent and keep learning.

Splort! Now I’m picturing a naked cat wearing a rib-eye steak! I got the e-collar so my dog could be off leash but I could have a safety net. Times I have used it include: at the beach on a windy day because the dog couldn’t hear me, when she spotted a deer in the park and took off after it, when she decided she didn’t like the look of a bicyclist or jogger speeding through the off leash park, while hiking in the mountains to teach her ‘stay on the trail’. All done with the vibrate mode, except for twice when she was in prey drive. Those needed a 7 stim. I also taught my dog sitter how to use the collar so they can have dog park time together. My sitter says mine is the *only* dog she can take to the park off leash.

Not boring at all Larry. I used this exact method to collar condition my service dog. Only correction she has had has been to stop severe Pica and chasing behaviour. Now I just use the beep/pager if she thinks of chasing. Correction on level 5. Without it she'd have been killed for chasing everything like industrial mowers. Now she is off lead/leash and no chasing or Pica. My Vets support my use of the e collar as it was used correctly and to stop her making bad choices. Her training is beautiful and she is a happy, healthy, responsive dog. Thanks Larry. You are the best advocate for e collars I know of : )

Hello and thanks for a great series of introductions videos to e-collar training. If I understand you correctly you want to mark the recall with your positive marker as soon as the dog has turned towards you and made it clear that the recall commando is going to be executed. Your explanation is that you do that to build speed and motivation to come as fast as possible, correct? I see that some other trainers that I respect to a great deal mark the recall POST completion of the commando when the dog is already as close as desired or in a specific position. Any comments or feedback to why your way is better? I am just about to start and would appreciate some feedback on this specific point, thanks.

I watch a lot of your videos because I find them very informative and helpful in ecollar training my dogs. That being said, it gets very annoying having to be lectured multiples times in every video about how humane ecollar training is. We got it. That's why were here on your channel watching your videos so we can learn how to use it with our dogs. If we didn't agree with you that it was a humane method of training, we wouldn't be here. Those who think otherwise are the ignorant minority, however loud they may be, and I think it's wrong that you give them as much airtime as you do. Anyone's who's mind is going to change about the ethics of an ecollar will come from the substance of your training methods, not the frequent ranting. Thank you for what you do. You really have taught me a lot about how training and developing healthy relationships with my gsds and I will continue to watch and sub to your channel.

Great video. Ecollars are only a tool and like all tools they can be abused. I tell people that scold me to open thier hand and I have them hold it and slowly turn it up. As you know most humans can't even feel it until level 12. Once they feel it almost 95% percent of people then understand. At low training levels it just does feel like a tap. On vicious and bitting dogs I have seen the levels much higher but for those dogs it's that or death. Vicious dogs an, ecollar is a last resort to save the dog's life. It truly is an educational issue. Just bought your book. Looking forward to reading it.

Larry, I think you should explain why you use ecollar first then the cue then leash pressure if needed. I understand why you are working on him understanding the collar pressure not teaching the Recall with the Ecollar in theory. Am I correct? I guess my question is what difference have you seen from using ecollar then cue versus Cue then Ecollar?
@robertbaelen51915 жыл бұрын
@Doug I think you are a trainer, I don't know either, but You should, I think. And I think also, if You cue your dog first and than give the dog a signal from the e-collar, You soon will give the dog a correction if he doesn't comply, and then the signal is going very quickly going up up up, You are setting yourself up to failure, choosing the wrong path. The right path is, teaching the dog a new signal overlaying older known signals as words , gestures, leash pressure aso. The wrong path is, whatever cue or signal and then forcing with the e-collar, why, not even with the smallest numbers, the path is wrong. Later on, off leash, on greatest distance, you stim - you recall. Or whatever. Sorry but Larry was very clear, very easy to understand, and i am from Belgium.
@DougZaga5 жыл бұрын
@@robertbaelen5191 Hi Robert very nice to hear from you. In my training the reason why he is using the Ecollar then the cue is to teach the dog how to turn off the pressure. I do not necessarily agree with you if you cue first then stim you will have to punish more. This is used to reinforce or increase speed for positions and obedience but the dog will be taught the behaviors and positions with 100"s of repititions. If you are using working level stim and you are reinforcing behaviors or teaching the dog to turn the pressure of the stim off just differences what you are doing. I understand what Larry is doing I was just suggesting he detail the differences for everyone. Also, Larry is the go to ecollar guru and I would like to hear his opinion. I’m a first time dog owner of an Anatolian (dumb, I know but he’s thriving and I’m learning) who is grateful to live in an age of KZbin with people like you. Max is 10 months old and just starting this training gives me hope he’ll be off leash before his first year.

You constantly say we are losing dogs because people don't train them. This is false and you've never provided any statistics on what makes a dog stay in the home. Training is one factor, but the quality and type of training a dog receives is variable. There is nothing wrong with your training, but it's very misinforming to say dogs are getting put down because they're not getting trained or not using an ecollar. As long as there is no governing body regulating dog trainers, the chances of people receiving a decent dog trainer is slim. For one, if you put any golden retriever, shepherd mix it will get adopted out soon. You put a pitbull in there? Likely to pts, likely to stay there for months to years+ even if it had no issues. All rescues in my area have no problem adopting out puppies, non-pits within weeks and even street dogs despite behavioral issues. The shelters are stuck with pits and many are pts because they have legit aggro issues that would cost a few thousand in training fees. Pits are a liability and most landlords, places, and towns ban them. Your aunt's chihuahua may not lose its home because aunt loves her dog despite it barks at the mailman every day. Why? Go figure, dog people will deal with many dog problems and some won't. The breed of the dog highly dictates whether it will be passed around in shelters or not. Go to any dog park, you will see the same dogs visit every week and their owners. All these dogs have mishbehaviors, anxiety, Resource guarding, shyness, etc. Why don't they give up their dogs? "we've come a long way" No. Most trainers do not recognize a dog has emotions or tailor training to help a dog fix its emotions. The traditional sit,stay,down, heel,come training can only go so far. Any trainer who thinks teaching a dog to walk nicely on a leash doesn't realize emotions come first. The dog is crazy on leash because it is having a hard time, not because it gives you the middle paw. Free behavior, at liberty, is still a fairly new concept to some, and some I question if that is really what they're doing when they constantly have to tell their dog to "place". Maddie's fund provides more insightful data on what gets a pet adopted than your claims. Training is part of it, but again, training is very inaccessible to many just on cost. A person on working income could possibly foster a dog from the shelter to save cost(and "save" a dog?), but they will not have an extra $200 for ecollar or lessons.

You said "Most trainers do not recognize a dog has emotions or tailor training to help a dog fix its emotions." According to who? You?? You also said "You constantly say we are losing dogs because people don't train them. This is false and you've never provided any statistics on what makes a dog stay in the home." This is false? Again, according to who? You?? "Training is part of it, but again, training is very inaccessible to many just on cost..." Really? You think so little of "people" they can't watch pakmasters videos and do it themselves? People on "working income" can't afford an ecollar? I just bought one for $45 and it works great. Do you really think someone who can't afford a $45 ecollar can afford to own a dog? It costs money to feed them, right? You remind me of CNN, trying to state YOUR opinions as facts while mixing in a few minor details that are obvious. In the meantime you completely miss the point of pakmasters videos. Have a nice day.

Poor German Shepherd.. If you did this in Germany, you could get in jail. There is a fine up to 60.000€, or even three years in jail, for using any kind of e-collar on a dog. Even those that vibrate, or spray water are forbidden, by law. A dog needs to orientate itself on its master, because it wants to. You dont get that by putting on a leash, or even hurting a dog.

Ok first youve never put an ecollar on yourself to see how it feels. At 8 it feels like a tingling sensation that catches your attention, according to Larry his is set at 5. Second im not sure where your from but a leash is necessary to walk a dog in most parks in the US due to their sometimes unpredictable behavior. According to your last sentence im guessing you havent watched the video? Im not sure why you think this dog is being hurt?

You probably don't believe in shoes either right? They trap the nature of your feet?

My dog is 7 months and very obedient. Bought my e collar for safety net for off leash freedom. I disagree and so does Larry. But thank you for voicing your opinion and information about Germany’s insane law.
