You are the first review that makes sense. The le looks good. But remember heavy balls at lower speeds does not mean bad. It’s shooting popcorn balls to cannon balls. Kinetic force on a heavy ball will make the difference.

Thank you for the video. Like you, I believe that the Byrna LE is designed for projectiles that weigh around 3g. I've seen enough testing here on YT and with the significant drop off of power/velocity when using heavier rounds, I'll stay in that 3g range for projectile weight. The Byrna Kinetic rounds are pricey. MCS makes a .68 cal "ceramic polymer" round that I use to practice with. They weigh 3.2g and I can purchase 500 for $100. I do have both, and the MCS rounds perform as well as the Byrna Kinetics.

Couple of thoughts. Be interesting to go the other way, i.e. What happens, Joule wise, when you go below the Byrna ball weight. Also you mention $$$ equip to measure down range impact. Using 'ballistic gel' is a cheap way to do accurate impact measurement (you don't need much for these CO2 projectiles)
@lesslethalfordummies
@lesslethalfordummies 3 ай бұрын
Good point regarding trying some lighter projectiles just for kicks. Lightest i have are 2.7g i think. I do have some ballistic gel here i have been using on some Umarex stuff of late. Maybe ill break out the ole Byrna.
@user-bf6go9nf6g
@user-bf6go9nf6g Жыл бұрын
Great video and subject matter. Even though the lighter rounds have greater muzzle velocity and joules the heavier rounds may penetrate deeper given they have more momentum due to their weight. But it is hard to figure out where the sweet spot for impact force is, as too much weight produces diminishing returns. Not sure how to best test it, looking forward to what you might come up with.
@lesslethalfordummies
@lesslethalfordummies Жыл бұрын
You are exactly right about diminishing returns. In a more powerful marker it makes sense to use heavier rounds and i have actually had higher muzzle velocities doing so. I am working on locating something for testing. The problem i have with ballistics gel is people are shooting at it point blank and this doesn’t demonstrate the impact force at a given distance. I want to have a measurable number so that it might correlate with pain.

Just remember that if you're modding your launchers, you're also opening up the option for law enforcement and the DAs to come after you for Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge when you use them. There is a reason these launchers are sold as they are. If you choose to mod them, you're opening yourself up to liability issues... Just something to keep in mind.

I have a question I don’t see anyone on the Internet at all comparing velocity with an HD or an SD that has an XL attached to it comparatively to the seven shot LA why not?
@lesslethalfordummies
@lesslethalfordummies Жыл бұрын
I think the main reason you dont see that comparison is the XL was discontinued. The XL should show a slight improvement in velocity over your standard short barrelled HD/SD throughout a mags worth. Now if Byrna sold spare XL/LE barrels to the general public you might get your wish. The XL does share the same longer barrel and 12g boost attachment of the LE model but thats where the similarities end internally.

Hmm, I would say that the simplest way to measure energy on impact would be to utilise a Caldwell style Chronograph set out at 6-15 m, and just fire your rounds through the wide massive inverted triangle 'reading area'. That's the great thing about these types of Chronographs, you can measure how much kinetic energy is retained at different ranges :) Off topic, but can I ask what ammo you were using specifically in your 88g TMC testing video? Where you got 25J from 88g?
@lesslethalfordummies
@lesslethalfordummies Жыл бұрын
Damn….you know sometimes the simplest answers are staring us right in the face. Early on i destroyed my Caldwell accidentally of course 🙄. Best numbers in the Tmc were using 3.7g Riot Balls.
@rustystyle
@rustystyle Жыл бұрын
@@lesslethalfordummies Ah dude, sorry to hear that. Yep that's the downside with them 🙈 And they're not exactly super cheap. A solution around that might be to put a protective window with an opening that corresponds with the 'reading area' , or well slightly smaller that it, so it protects the device from strays 🤔 But elaborate set up mind you, making your chronny less lethal proof 🤣 And thanks, I presume that's the actual brand name for them too yes? 'Riot balls'?
@lesslethalfordummies

@rustystyle yes an unfortunate accident in my earlier years. A protective barrier is a great idea. Yes Riot Balls USA was the brand of the 3.7g nylon balls.

@@lesslethalfordummies Guess if you ever got a new one it might be a worthwhile investment to do that. You're going to get a few flyers with smoothbore/round ball shooting at range I presume anyway. That said I recently got a TMC after watching your videos after it, and it's getting pretty darn good groups at 10m. I'm just trying to settle on a good brand ammo to get the most out of it, so thanks for the recommendation 👌🙌

@lesslethalfordummies
@lesslethalfordummies Жыл бұрын
Nope note drunk 😆 Thats 7am hair 🧟‍♀️ 88g wont fit the Gog without an adapter. I wouldnt recommend using the Gog for co2 because it was designed for hpa. Mcs does sell a specific 88g adapter that doesn’t require an adapter so depends on which one you have. Either of the Mcs on/offs are better suited for co2 use.
