I've just starting making my first ever game and I couldn't believe my luck when found this channel! I already owned Wingspan and I loved Scythe when I played it so to find a channel run by the developer of both of those is incredible! You're so generous with your knowledge.

Small rules correction: the obligation to feed a llama only happens when you accumulate at least 10 resources, not 4 of one type. Your point about the positive side effect on the publishing side stills stands, I think, as you are eventually obligated to turn in resources.

Thanks for clarifying that! Either we played it wrong or I remembered it wrong--either way, you're right. :)

Really giving literal meaning to playing "tall" vs playing "wide" 😁

I haven't played this one yet, but the choice between building up or out reminds me a lot of Ginkgopolis. In that one players are collectively building a city, and whenever you build something you can either build on top of an existing stack or in an open spot next to previously placed buildings. If you build up, you don't get any bonuses, and it will cost more than building outwards (particularly if you build over another player's building), but you now control a taller building which means better opportunities for area control scoring at the end of the game - adjacent buildings of the same color form those areas, and the more buildings there are and the taller they are, the more points the area is worth. On the other hand, if you start a new stack, that will not matter so much for the area control, but you do get to activate all the buildings adjacent to your new one - and the taller those other buildings are the more stuff you get by activating them.

Thanks for sharing! It's been a long time since I last played Ginkgopolis, so I appreciate the reminder of how it works.

Seems similar to Gunkimono, which I love - will have to try this sometime.

Fascinating. I was noodling with a concept for a NIMBY/YIMBY game that really would be better executed as a hack of this. Thanks for the analysis!
