@@nabila6401 “When I was in my EDs” = “When I was suffering from an eating disorder.” As in she was once so insecure about her body that she starved herself. Not fitting a dress she used to fit in can be a trigger for that kind of stuff. We’re celebrating that she didn’t talk negatively about her body when that happened, which is a huge step up in recovery. Her saying that her lats (upper back muscles) are bigger just means she’s gained more healthy muscle since then compared to when she was starving herself, which over time causes dilapidation of muscle tissue that would be there in someone who is healthy. Don’t worry, it’s not any sort of negative self talk.

The same things happened to my cousin when she started working out and eating healthy, she lost so much body fat but gained like 20 lbs of muscle. I think seeing her eating fully and well, and building strength and feeling good was a very pivotal influence on my relationship with body image and eating, it made me see that the scale is just a number; health and joy make way more of a difference than any number.

I taught at the high school I attended. We were expected to chaperone the Prom each year. When I had been out 40 years, I went upstairs and got my Senior dress. No, it did not fit, but I took it to a local seamstress who fixed it and I wore it to the Prom-40 years later. The kids all wanted to know where I got it and all I could say was out of my closet! Funniest part-driving myself there in my pickup truck!

I think that they look better now. Mine also look better now/a few years after the fact (I was on meds and danced a lot, so I was very thin). I also fill out my dresses more. I know it took me some time to get used to my adult woman body compared to my skinny teenage body.
