Just great. Undoubtedly the greatest composer / arranger of our time. I love to hear Burt sing the lines as he intended them to be delivered.
@david_king_music5 жыл бұрын
I always put Sondheim in the top composer spot - but they intersect in his musical Company, which very much uses the same harmonic palette as Bacharach, and this song specifically. It bleeds over to Follies too, which was composed around the same time. The 9sus4 and major slash chords, pedals, pentatonic melodies with upward transpositions

I agree totally, but....….he wasn't the greatest singer. Best leave that to Jack Jones who just made a great song greater.

@@stefeniedavidmusic Maybe not quite the greatest - but - he is always effective when he sings. The audience absolutely loves it when Burt sings his songs. I've seen him three times over the years. We love Burt.

@@david_king_music I know theory too lol. Bacharach was a master of all that PLUS a master of rhythm. I heard him interviewed. He says when he composes a song, he also "hears" the background arrangement. And I'm also, like you. a Sondheim fan. The ending of Sunday in the Park with George is beyond words.

Just plain fabulous! This is the best rendition of this song I ever heard. Sanborn shreds it. I got goosebumps when I saw this performed on “One Amazing Night.” It edges out-barely-Dionne Warwick’s closing performance of “Walk on By; I Say a Little Prayer; Do You Know the Way to San Jose.” Everything else outside those two was okay, but not nearly as memorable. Though it can be said that Mike Meyers atrociously cheeky “What’s New Pussycat” was memorable (He didn’t belong on the stage. I guess it was gratitude for including Bacharach’s music on his Austin Powers flicks).

Outstanding arrangement of this song. Still would have sounded good with Jack Jones singing however this is really nice. These old tunes from my childhood elementary school years are bittersweet as they can stir emotion remembering a better time and place especially in this time of covid.

2 Samuel 11:2 ¶ And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. 3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
