Greetings from Berlin! Thank you sooooo much, I‘ve had exactly the same situation, equal error codes and handling of the engine. At the beginning I found some videos stating that P0106 is because of a bad MAP sensor, but than I saw your video and was convinced to check the valve, and this was the right solution (was a little bit worried if the new would still leak too 😅 but everything is fine) Thank you so much!

Simply reving up the engine would bring the fuel trim numbers down and show the problem. TOO lean at idle but not at high rpms means vacuum leak. This engine has MAP and MAF sensor. So the fuel injection is dictated by the MAF. MAP sees the drop of vacuum but is not in control of the fuel. The MAF is.

Your thinking would be corect, but not in this case, as this is major vacuum leak, and you would not see much difference by reving it.

Very common problem. First job is always to see how easy the oil filler cap comes off while the engine is ticking over. Must have done 20 of these in the last year or two. Never bought a genuine steeler part. Customer always wants an eBay part. Never had a bad one. I do agree a lot of cheap parts are definitely getting worse though. One thing to note, some genuine parts manufacturers do send parts that haven't passed QC to China. These get reboxed and sent back to EU and US. Some BMW parts in US are renowned for this.

one of our drivers bought his Land Rover 2008 puma defender into the workshop and said the MIL lamp was on and the engine was under powered and running rough, so I got the 'Box' out and plugged it in, it came up with a fault code, I cant remember the number but it said EGR circuit value out of range, so I got a new EGR valve and fitted it, reset the code and five minutes later the same problem reappeared, so I scratched my head a bit and had a think, and tried to apply some logic to it, the code said EGR circuit value out of range, and I thought maybe it meant the electrical circuit, the wiring looms on these defenders is fairly complex and didn't want to pick off all the tape to find a break in the wire/s, so i bought a loom, and they are not cheap 400 quid If i remember correctly, so i fitted that and guess what? same problem (Humph), so I phoned a friend in the trade who specialises in engine management etc, and he said 'did you fit an after market EGR valve or genuine?' (here of course is where real experience comes into it's own), That was when the penny dropped, I'd of course fitted an after market part, so I then fitted a genuine EGR valve and presto job done! The real problem here was not so much a part that didn't work properly and just having to swap it for one that did, but that it sent me off in the wrong direction and caused unneccesary expense. In principal I'm quite happy to fit after market parts but there are caveats, you just need to be aware that they are not going to be as good as OEM parts and they can catch you out...Ouch! Fingers burned-lesson learned

So based on a fault code, you changed the EGR valve and a wiring loom. Talk about a bad diagnosis. If there was a problem with the wiring you good have known this by actually measuring it. You good even diagnose the bad aftermarket egr valve with a scope or maybe even with live data. There are so many mechanics these days just changing parts hoping it fixes the problem.

You're brilliant Bro👍 This situation is quite frustrating when the fault is still present after replacing the failed component & it's even more disturbing when the customer has bought the part themselves & they will never condemn what they bought That's an automotive tech's life😉 But the way you dissected both cover's & made one functional out of them is outstanding, Great work👍 Stay Safe Bro❤

@@LMAutoRepairs I know. Because they have to make the cars lighter, build quality suffers and manufacturers use other companies engines. I mean, would you buy a Mercedes with a Renault engine? And there's too many modules in stupid places where they get water ingress all the time. Its laughable. Smaller engines with turbos are too highly tuned and overheat like the ford engine. Vw have a high engine failure rate too on the TFSI engines. Total crap.

I had a different problem with the same rocker cover. I got two Fia rocker covers off my local motor factors, that Id consider a decent brand, both wouldn't fit as was a few mm out & three bolt heads wearnt formed correctly. The next step in price was a Febi that was £130, so I ended up rolling the dice & getting one off eBay for £27.89 instead that fitted great & even had the Vauxhall number stamped in to it, lol
