Great job! I have watched at least 6 hours of your videos today and that's because I am about to buy a 2013 508 with the 1.6 turbo engine. Lots of people are telling me to run away from the problematic engine. I want to make an objective and informed decision. 😅😅😅

Like anything... they all have their pros and cons... but ultimately, the main thing is maintenance... regular oil and filters change go a long way... 👍👍👍

The "timing" was set to "It's Friday afternoon so just get it(mostly) back together and if it doesn't work we'll send it elsewhere"! Yet again Luis, YOU have to sort it out properly after some other "workshop" has failed completely, so looking ahead to Episode 2! Michael

I bought a set of Chinese timing tools for a BMW engine. The pin to lock the crankshaft somehow went in easily, but after finishing the repair I struggled for a whole day on the driveway trying to remove it. I ended up having to remove the gearbox and smash the thing out from inside! It made what was already a difficult job (Vanos and valvetronic rebuild) into an absolute nightmare, I think it was down to the fact the the pin was a slightly larger diameter compared to the official BMW tool.
@jackiemay9471Ай бұрын
DID YOU USE THE PIN TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS NUTS ECT and bent it its for alignment and not holding
@MattyEnglandАй бұрын
@jackiemay9471 No not at all. I was very careful not to put any rotational force against it. It wasn't bent, just super tight in the hole. I was only working on the cam gear, and there was no timing chain on it when tightening the camsprockets etc
@jackiemay9471Ай бұрын
@@MattyEngland so the only thing then i can think is the pin was cold going in to a warm engine pin warmed engine cooled and solid friction fit better than welding that was bad luck
@richie674Ай бұрын
Use Wurth Rost Off spray it freezes the component to -45c shrinking it by 5% & turning it blue to indicate the temperature so that would have stood a chance of coming out , just a tip for next time , also good for seized brake bleed nipples ,again another tip fir you 👍🤙
@MattyEnglandАй бұрын
@@richie674 Yeah we tried freezer spray on the pin as well as heating the casing up, still no luck. Part of the issue was that access to it was super tight and hard to get any tools on it.

EP6C so cylinder one is closest to the transmission :-) opposite to what you think and yep torque to yield cam sprocket bolts single use, did you make sure the vanos gears were locked in position before checking the valve timing? 27mm spanner on each camshaft, make sure you can't turn camshaft (without locking tool in place), if you can then vanos not locked and probably faulty, great video!!

Once you had low compression on all 4 cylinders, I initially thought that the exhaust valves are open ~ timing was out. Great video, 35 mins in already. Edit ~ Please wear some gloves 😢.
