Columbia University is an Ivy League (considered some of the best schools in the US) school in NYC, Manhattan specifically. It's probably closer to an hour away from where the Soprano's live but it's still pretty close to home considering. Mr. Ruggerio's Neighborhood refers to an old kids show in the US called Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

I think they were just a little confused given the scene from the last episode. Where they were correct it was a dream, but in this case Meadow’s choice just ended up being the same as the dream scene.

"Mr. Ruggerio's Neighborhood" is a play on the PBS children's "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood". Junior even puts on a cardigan like Mr. Rogers did at the start of every episode of his show. But instead says "It's a beautiful day in the neighbhorhood -- and I'm stuck inside."

Columbia University is in a small group of some of the best schools in US, way more highly regarded then Calfornia berkeley. She was high on berkeley, because as young people sometime do, want to get far away, and wasn't sure she would be accepted by colombia, once she was it is a no brainer.

I feel like the episode where Meadow wants to go to Berkley was as much if not more exploring Carmela's character, while still letting us know Meadow is feeling the effect of her family. Both Tony and Carnela probably wore her down and convinced her. Could make more sense to you as her character develops

FYI. This is, in my opinion, the best season. I watched this show as it aired from season 1 episode 2. Also, Meadow is at Columbia in NYC for production logistics. By keeping her close, her character can remain relevant to the rest of the cast.

We have SO MANY colleges and universities here in the US, it's shocking how . . we aren't always the smartest, haha!! There are different levels, and Columbia is part of that highest stature. Just going to one does not ensure success, just as not going to one can limit you. What they do offer is access to other high level connections. In the show Suits every lawyer in that firm HAD to be a Harvard graduate, for example. (That's a great show to react to one day).
