Fun fact: when Mob says Reigen is a "genuinely good guy" he is specifically using the same phrase Reigen used when he told Mob to become a "good person". In Japanese, that's "ii yatsu." Wish the translations made it more obvious that Mob is calling back to that first advice Reigen gave him way back when.

I imagine the flash back to Reigen patting Mob on the shoulder and wording the line immediately after mob says it makes it obvious that it's a callback to that exact line

Hello. I am a Japanese who likes anime. 4:31 In Japan, it has long been believed that salt purifies bad things. That is a fact that all Japanese know, even if they are not familiar with the supernatural or religion. The fact that Reigen always carries salt with him is a comedic depiction of the fact that he has no knowledge of exorcism and can only rely on what is familiar to him. The name of the city where the mobs live, Seasoning City, is simply because the author is not motivated by naming the place lol.

I don't know where I first read, heard or seen this, probably from many other anime I grew up with, but it's as equal as "holy" water. In a way, it translates well to most non-Japanese who's an alright viewer of paranormal shows or anime; no worries about there being much mistranslation there between cultures, but thanks anyway!
@Maceta4442 жыл бұрын
Their relationship is so well constructed and feels so real. Reigen starts out as a con man who basically says some bullshit 'feel-good' words to get rid of this kid. He then realizes how special this kid is and how meaningful that advice is to him. He doesn't want to let him down so he starts acting out his own 'bullshit' advice. Mob knows perfectly well that Reigen is not the wise master he acts out to be, yet he has so much need for such a figure of authority that he decides to act the part of the dilligent student who doesn't want to dissappoint his master. Slowly, as time goes on, the characters start to mix with the reality, a positive feedback loop forms in which they both feel like they need to be better for each other and end up becoming so as a consequence, even when they are completely oblivious to it. Reigen becomes a wise master, and a good man, as shocked as he is to hear this. Mob becomes a kind & confident kid, even if he doesn't quite understand why or how he's grown so much. This is something that all of us can relate to in a sense. We may not be entirely good, or wise, or kind on the inside, but there' s people around us who make us feel that we should act as we were, and in the process we unconsciously end up becoming better people. This is the central theme of this anime, how much we need of other people for our own well- beign, growth & fullfillment, and how much they need us, and how oblivious we are to that fact.

Fun fact, now Reigen trended on Twitter in real life too. He won the twitter polls for "twink supreme", "ultimate dilf" and "hottest anime woman" (and I'm not really sure what more), but he lost the poll for "tumblr sexy man" to Sans (from undertale) by 0,1% of votes, and had responses from both Mob Psycho's official page and Undertale's creator

Even though Reigen is such a mess, a fraud or everything bad people call him at the end of the day he still helps people who come to him. And what makes me respect him the most is we can see he never rejects people (tho he does it for money most of the times), he opens his door even for a kid like Mob. He listens to every problem people throw at him and he does his best to help him. His relationship with Mob is more than what we call as mutual partnership but they balance and respect each other. They grow together. To become good people 🥹

This episode is always one that I come back to when I think about Mob Psycho. It's always so moving when you realize how much Mob and Reigen mean to each other. This is a story about Mob becoming who he is and he wouldn't have gotten to where he is without Reigen! I get teary-eyed whenever he says his master is "a genuinely good guy"!

Reigan wanted to be "someone special". He did not "who" he was. Influenced by a magazine cover he goes to open a business, to find himself. Yet again he had no answer about his identity. On the day when he was about to quit, Mob walks into his life. A really really troubled kid who is scared of himself. Reigan casually gives him an advise, "be a good person", that is only thing that matters. Probably these words didn't mean much to Reigan, but they had a huge impact on Mob over the years. Reigan instantly became someone special to Mob. Years later when Reigen himself is in trenches, this time cornered by the his mother, media, friends and even the world. He is again struggling again to find answer to who he is. Is he really a conman and fraud as everyone been saying? He turns to Mob to find an answer to this. Mob now casually repeats the same words that Reigan told him years ago. "I jatsuda" - a good person. That's all the assurance Reigan needed in the world.

man I love this show. These beautiful moments just make it stand out. And this season really shows the depth of these characters. They aren't just 2D cutouts but everything they do is rooted in their life's history, their experiences, fears and wishes. Reigen really is the parent mob never had. His real parents constantly keep getting annoyed at his powers, discourage and scold him for doing weird things or just brush his actions off as being a teenager going through puberty. Mob already has a very high skill in his powers and he's picking up on new psychic capabilities very quickly, so he doesn't need somebody else to teach him about the powers, he needs a parent figure that guides him along the way of becoming an adult, a good person. Reigen helps him by putting his powers to use and teaching him about morals, while also helping him out of some situations like the vase scam and protecting him from making terrible mistakes while risking his (Reigens) own life. He's far from perfect of course and these episodes were awesome just to learn more about his character growth and noticing how much mob helped him too throughout the years.

The episode where Reigen really got his dream, to be somebody, not to the whole world, but to mob, and it is genuine. And for those who are still living in a way just to please others, stop, you can't be perfect all the time, all you need is to be genuine. No masks. The people who will stay after they know your true self might not be as many as you think, but there are the ones you should keep. This scene right here, changed my life. Such a good mental health release.

@Greyscale112 жыл бұрын
Worth noting, I think, is that at the end of the episode, in the Japanese dialogue, Mob did use the term that Reigen used when he first offered him advice as a child. "Become a good person" ("ii yatsu ni nare") "What my master really is..." "...is a good person." ("...ii yatsu da") In fact, the translation being "genuinely good guy" kinda bothered me when this ep came out because the direct parallel to what Reigen said earlier isn't as clear. Good to see you enjoy it though, lol.

Well to be honest he does have psychic powers ( he can see spirits ) and he did actually help the people that payed him for the service - even thou sometimes it didn’t need actually psychic powers to fix it, since not everyone actually had problems that requieres a powerful psychic person. Like going to see the doctor but getting some placebo thing to do cuz there is no real problem.
