Great fabrication. Creative use of materials (cement/fiberglass mix formed around stove barrel & copper tubing in cutaway plastic bucket; clothes hangers for reinforcing concrete). Effective addition of concrete thermal mass to stove with copper tubing embedded in it. Excellent adaptation of used appliances/tanks/wok to speed build. Impressive operating temperature! 1. The copper tubing buried in the cement casting supplies abundant hot water. Why not (a) plumb it to a household hot water system and/or (b) attach a pump and circulate it thru radiators to extend the area heated by the stove (larger stove barrel if needed to increase capacity)? 2. Not clear from video, but the tank lid of the adapted water heater may be left open, resulting in excessive evaporation which (a) saturates the room with dripping humidity and (b) quickly dissipates the circulating water. (The design may already be a closed water loop to control evaporation - one equipped with pressure relief valves to prevent a steam explosion). 3. A significant amount of heat appears to escape via the vertical exhaust pipe, reducing the stove’s efficiency. Why not (a) route the exhaust thru a heat exchanger or an exhaust pipe made to act as a heat exchanger, or (b) wrap more copper tubing around the exhaust pipe to route part of the exhaust heat into the water heater tank?
@lmtnАй бұрын
Great insights! Connecting the copper tubing to a household system or using a pump to circulate water through radiators would enhance heating. Addressing evaporation by sealing the tank lid is crucial, and utilizing a heat exchanger could improve efficiency by capturing more exhaust heat.

I have two small suggestions. There could have been stronger hangers used in the concrete rim, like maybe wire two or three together for added strength, because if the rim cracks, it will likely not hold in place very firmly. And the stovepipe should slide into the INSIDE of the stove's opening. If it is not on the inside, the creosote in the pipe will leak OUT of that fitting, and all over the floor. I know this because I did ours that way, and had a smelly mess that stained the concrete pad we had it sitting on. So we had to change it. The upper pipe always fits inside the lower pipe. Other than these, I'm impressed, and I rarely say that to anyone. Good job.
@lmtnКүн бұрын
Thank you so much for the thoughtful suggestions! I really appreciate your feedback and will definitely keep that in mind for future builds. Glad you liked the project overall! 😊
@roi354Күн бұрын
You're wrong. Stove pipes should always be connected so the one above is OUTSIDE the one below. I'd rather have a creosote mess to clean up than the fumes and carbon monoxide killing me in my sleep. The pipes can be connected with stove cement to stop leaks anyway.
@kellycarver2500Күн бұрын
@@roi354 If the stove is drafting right, this is never an issue. We have always burned wood, and never had an issue with the fumes. That creosote fumes were horrible, though, and even though we washed and scrubbed, the house reeked for weeks. It is NOT something anyone would want. Never got the stains out, either. And yes, the joints should be filled.

12:56 Advice For anyone watching (well done on your build) Those pipes need to be curving upwards towards the inlet of the water container, otherwise youll end up with a bubble and it might explode the pipes and HOT WATER EVERYWHERE. Also, notice that this is not a closed system, meaning the lid is off open the air. If you have a containter make sure it either has a pipe coming from the top acting as an "air pressure value" or have the lid off - otherwise its BOUMB!

@DiyEcoProjectsАй бұрын
hi bro. ok so lets explain, i make shower sauna caravans run off wood burners. (crap description so edited) 1. In a tiny house or yurt, you could have mains water pipe coming at above head hieght 7-8ft into a header tank, with automatic stop cock. 2. water from the header tank has T junction. One falls through gravity into base of canister. The other is cold water feed to sink / shower / whatever. 3. from base of canister another cold water pipe goes to base of burner. 4. from top of burner is hot water - which goes into three quarters way up canister 5. hot and cold now circulate 6. from top of canister is T juntion, one for feeding hot water to sink / shower / whatever. The other is air pressure pipe which its tip must be higher than the water tank. Water rests at water tank level in the hot pipe, but if pressure builds, it will spout hot water and steam from top of that pipe = safety. For this reason, put pipe through roof of yurt and have it spout, spit, and let off steam outside, over the roof. 7. Always pipes have nice arc going up so no air trapped bubbles. What you’ve made in the video is effectively a clean mini hot tub, open to the air. Hope that’s helpful 😊
