LNER 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley Returns in Style on the Settle & Carlisle Line 21/5/22.

LNER A4 4498 ( 60007 ) Sir Nigel Gresley would be at the helm of the A4 Members Private Charter from Crewe to Carlisle over the famous Settle & Carlisle line with the return to Crewe via the West Coast Mainline over Shap .With SNG now fully overhauled and mainline fit after running in at the Severn Valley line and a couple of test runs we would see 4498 ( 60007 ) in wartime black on the Settle & Carlisle Northbound for the 1st time since 1st November 2008.4498 is first seen climbing the 1 in 100 gradient at Horton/Selside in fine voice with no assistance from the diesel . The return sees SNG at plumpton and Kitchenhill with plenty in reserve judging by the fine display.The last two shots were a last minute plan due to having to bin the late running CME with 46115 having problems hence SNG was just cruising .Thanks to Nige for the lift in the afternoon and the good company today.

Brilliant footage. I especially like the first shot. You can tell from the steam/ black smoke exactly when the coal is being shovelled into the firebox.
