Hello Hylton, a great review of a fabulous model. I had my J70 pulling four mark 1 coaches without issue, it's a versatile locomotive very small but loads of character. Many thanks for sharing your video :) :) :)

Brilliant, that is good to hear it’s such a strong hauler, I can imagine a little J70 pulling some Mk 1s was quite an amusing sight? Thanks again Colin 😊

3 of them? What liveries do you have? That’s epic!
@reeheehee9615Ай бұрын
@Proper_Chuffed Haha, I know I've got a problem. Technically 2 Side Skirt LNERS, but i painted one into a RWS Toby. The last was the 127 GER with the orange body and dark blue side skirts. I want to get the crimson body and white side skirts one eventually as I love that livery. It's my favourite loco I'm slowly collecting them 😁

Really great little engine. Like you this is pure rule 1 for me. I stumped for the GER blue and teak train pack. The sound is superb and like you I was full of admiration for the detail. A consideration of a future purchase is one of the 16xx tank engines with a 60c shed plate that model rail have done. A fascinating story of how they ended up in Scotland near to Dunrobin Castle on the Dornoch branch. The two pannier tank soldiered on till the line pretty much closed. Highly recommend a read of this and it may even inspire a purchase (as a fellow Scottish modeller, I plan to grab one at the NEC in November!)
@Proper_ChuffedАй бұрын
Ah man, I can imagine the GER blue and teak is just perfect. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll definitely look at the 16xx, if it’s Scottish, you know I’ll probably be eyeing it 🤣 you know me well now. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the one you get, will probably coax me into the checkout page 😅

What a delightful little locomotive and I never knew that Toby the tram engine was a somewhat accurate depiction of a real locomotive. This J70 engine could be Toby with a 3D printed face very easily and I think Rapido knew this and opened the end plates for its insertion without having a problem with patent infringement. It is a shame it's a little coggy, but with the very complicated linkage and the size of the parts it is to be expected. The real engine must have been successful even though they only produced 12 in the 18 years of production, so it is odd that not one was preserved but a replica was built as a static display and running at the Avon Valley Railway. Wikipedia is a wonderful thing, and I needed to look the J70 up, lol. Excellent review and video, Jersey Bill

Hi Hylton. That's a cool little loco. They used to run along the quaysides of Gt Yarmouth (as you mentioned) & Lowestoft, 2 towns within 30 mins from where I live. If you know where to look, you can still see the remnants of the lines on which they used to run.
@Proper_ChuffedАй бұрын
Isn’t that just an awesome anecdote, I would love to see that, are there actual tracks still there or is it just a suggestion of where they were? Thanks for popping by Stephen, always means a lot to me.
@stephendavies6949Ай бұрын
@Proper_Chuffed There is a short section of track at the side of Lowestoft station, where the line from the Fish Dock crossed the main road and entered the goods yard via a gate, which is also still in situ. I believe the line was still in use by Bird's Eye until rheblate 1970s/early 80s. At Gt Yarmouth, the bridge over which the trains used to run into Vauxhall station (now the only 1 of 3 stations that used to serve Gt Yarmouth that still exists) still stands and is used as a pedestrian walkway. If I can find a photo or two, I'll send them to you.

My parents bought a house in Wisbech when they both retired. I now own one-third of it. Sorry to correct you, but Wisbech is pronounced Wiz-Beach. It is often pronounced incorrectly. This is a model I must get in LNER as my layout is an LNER Preservation Railway called "Yorkdale" It is on KZbin. A great review. Thanks very much. Martin. (Thailand)

I want one. It doesn’t match anything I have, but there’s something very appealing about a small, well made machine.

Great review, I’m definitely tempted to pick this one up, but seeing as my layout is a heritage railway and my rule is if the locomotive is preserved or a member of the class is than I have no problems running it, the J70 wouldn’t really fit in for me (if that makes any sense). If you want to try more tank engines I highly recommend the Bachmann 94xx, Rapido Hunslet, Dapol Hawthorn Leslie, Bachmann J72, and the Bachmann 1P.
@Proper_ChuffedАй бұрын
Thank you for the recommendations there 😊 there’s a few you suggested that I would be keen on, especially the Hawthorne Leslie. Rule one is always rule one I guess 😂

@Proper_ChuffedАй бұрын
@@drewsmodelrailwayworld4856 Hi Drew, thanks for popping by again. These are woodland scenics inclines, they are fairly available. I previously used wood to do inclines and frankly it was a very uneven rise that caused a few problems. The woodland scenics is a set 2% so your rise and fall are very steady as long as you have a flat surface. Hope that helps
