You can faux brass coat the screws, you use a brass wire brush and a propane torch, heat up the screw and while it’s hot you brush it, the brush melts and leaves a layer on the screw, there’s a few guys on KZbin that show how it’s done, it’s not perfect, but will add the feature that’s wanted at least

Take a brass brush wheel for your grinder heat up the ball and use the brash wheel on the shifter knob and the brass will transfer to it and it won't come off
