It was amazing to watch this. It may seem lame but I cried. I felt like Indiana Jones searching for this video over the past 25 years. I have written letters, emails to NBC and scoured the web until today. I even have a friend who knew people at NBC that were trying to find it for me. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Al Franken's father, Joseph P. Franken, sadly didn't make it to the year 2000. 1993 was his last year on earth, and he passed into eternity on December 28.

That Andy Rooney joke on the NY Resolutions bit was hilarious...and the audience did not even make a peep....LOL.
@Andysnyc6 жыл бұрын
Probably due to that being something they can easily see Rooney saying on 60 Minutes.

That's Linda Lopez, subbing for Bill Wendell for that night and the next 11 shows.

Kind of a strange choice for a sub from the staff announcer roster. I wonder why they didn’t get Don Pardo to fill in. Or even Joel Godard, who I think was working for NBC by this point.
@nedwart7 жыл бұрын
Andy Rose Or even Paul! He had subbed for Wendell a few times up to that point

I sent in a small town news that was used on the show - mid 90s, I missed the show that night because of work. My last name at the time was "Smith" so they couldn't find my phone but sent me a t-shirt. It was a wedding announcement from The Roanoke Times in Roanoke, VA and the picture was of a woman with her horse. I know it's a long shot - but would you have it?
@dongiller2 жыл бұрын
I have every show, so yes. I can’t upload it, it I’ll see if I can find it.

Found it - January 15, 2007. Close. :)
@stephanieholcomb97782 жыл бұрын
It would have been mid -90s, not 2007. Maybe they reused it, but I definitely remember where I was living and it was Late Night, not Late Show. Thank you.
@dongiller2 жыл бұрын
@@stephanieholcomb9778 Good point re possibly reusing it. I’ll check Late Night. Though “mid 90s” would place it with CBS, as LN ended in ‘93. You probably mean early ‘90s.

Hi Don, I have a question. Do you happen to have the final Late Show with Bill Wendell as announcer and / or the first one with Alan Kalter as announcer?
@dongiller6 жыл бұрын
I have every show. Getting to the Late Show videotapes is currently problematic, but in the meantime, here's are segments of Bill's last show. It's unlisted, so please don't share. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXirfmWPdrWqh5Y Here's Alan's first announce, preceded by the backstory why he ID'd Dave the way he did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4TVgXeNl992i80

@dongiller7 жыл бұрын
That was during the second break.
@MrKrissdekaliss Жыл бұрын
@@dongiller First break is, I believe, “Mystic Eyes”, (Van Morrison) And at the second break, it might not be “Bell Bottom Blues” but instead, an obscure (for the US) song by a French singer named Michel Delpech: “Wight it Wight”. I say this because 1) the melody is right and 2) the fourth line of lyrics in the song is “Viva Donovan”… And if it is indeed “Wight is Wight”, then I’m flabbergasted by the breadth of Paul’s (French) pop music culture.
