I love seeing you back on youtube and playing a game im enjoying playing myself. Hoping to see you on this for a while mate, ive missed your voice and explanations in games tbh

Honestly I love this game, the runs are somewhat structured so I can relax while watching them It's just such a welcome series

Hey rhaps I know that theses are probably pre-recorded but they just made a whole bunch of changes as of yesterday which makes the game more fun and fluid and makes it possible to branch into multiple builds and a bunch of reworks. For example when you level up there are 5 choices instead of 3 level up rewards and on level 5 and 10 you get a guaranteed upgrade an item.

I think one big problem with those last couple of fights (before the final one) was removing the katana. The butterfly swords are better, probably, or at least on par, but the revolver very much isn't. Every katana attack triggered the Cannons, so removing them lost you something like 1400 damage every 10 seconds, while the revolver was giving somewhat less than 600, so by going with that and the fish you were just handicapping yourself by 80 damage a second or something like that. The final switch to the torpedo honestly dropped damage as compared to the revolver, I think. It eventually starts doing more but not until you're 40 seconds in which is...not great. It'd need to go longer than fights go to be better than the katana. Wouldn't have mattered in that last fight, I admit, but as a future reference thing.

My Dude, switchblade adjacent to the cannonade and flagship would cause them to gain 10 damage per activation. That means on a 4 multicast ship you would get +40 damage every time it activates. Its a lot more damage than the revolver or whatever, because it can scale both those weapons. Also, Games gud :P

Wait, my understanding was that items with triggers like Cannonade and Pufferfish are never "used" and therefore don't trigger "on use" effects like Switchblade, are you telling me that's wrong?!

@@RhapsodyPlays I don't completely understand what you mean by this. Switchblade adds damage to anything with a red number on the card. It's effect is based on its own usage so it will boost the adjacent items damage even with things that don't have a cooldown including caltrops and cannonade. Just because they don't have a cooldown themselves doesn't mean they can't be boosted/changed in/outside of combat. For things like Flagship it really does boost the damage to astronomical numbers because of the multicast Bayonet you are right about as it has no cooldown I think.

​​​ I don't think it would scale the cannon, but it would have scaled the flag ship for way more than the revolver was doing. I probably would have swapped out the katana honestly

It happens in this games, sometimes you just never get something that Quite comes together nicely. I'd love to see a burn build! Or at least dipping your toes into burn partially.

The initial visit to Curio makes me a touch sad that you didn't invest in the Critlass meme dream. Early Iron Sharpens Iron is essentially +9 per fight once you get enough Crit on it, and Vanessa excels at just taking one weapon and going galactic with it. Looking forward to the cannons though

Genuinely upset that its been 16 hours since the last upload, i'm so impatient its ridiculous. I've been following you since Slay the Spire, and I have a huge respect for the way to approach gaming and KZbin. Keep it up Rhapsody! I even loved your artistic projects on here.

There is a dev endorsed "cheat sheet" of all the enemies and what they do, there is talk of it being put into the game.

Both times chum has failed to give you a piranha have been when you already have a piranha; I guess maybe something about the game wanting to combine the two piranhas is messing it up?

I'd have to go check last video to be sure, but I think both times, piranha was also an option in the shop. So it could be an issue with the game conflicting the pirhana for sale in the shop with the piranha from chum.

I feel like Rhaps never does the math on small numbers because "number small, so it must be bad". 3% cd with six items is 36% cooldown reduction, which is pretty insane, provided you get to trigger your items more than once. Same with the damage increases below like 5. Yes it's only +5 damage, but in the grand scheme of things that's like 30 extra damage. With the switchblade for example, surely switchblade + revolver would scale the ship insanely fast, as it would go off 4 times every time, and you're only losing one or two katana attacks, which honestly mostly just trigger cannonade anyway.

This run was not as good but still very enjoyable. I think this game is great in that regard because even when losing you can pull off some fun builds along the way

Yesterday I tried downloading and playing the game and it took me a shamefully long time to figure out what "closed beta" means... Really shouldn't have been that hard to just read 2 words.

So hot take about "Meta", the concept it is sometimes a lie. Yes, if the meta is just all the broken items that need serious balancing, then the meta is a race like Rhaps said. However, if there is decent balance in the game, which this game is close to having outside of maybe a dozen extreme outliers that desperately do need patching, then the "meta" is just a preference confused as objective rule. In the second case oddly, the more loudly preached that type of "meta", the better other items that naturally counter that "meta" gets. So, it is a bit self defeating in that case. The second type is so commonly used sadly (not by Rhaps) that I now instinctively cringe when I here the word meta even when it is used fairly.
