@baileefrease22 you are a minority then! I'm an MRI and CT tech. I give contrast every day for both. Very seldom do I ever hear anyone say the MRI contrast made them feel anything. In fact most people comment afterwards that they didn't feel the contrast. We always warn CT patients before the exam though because they will feel it! But yes some few individuals feel MRI contrast as well. Not normal though!

I had a peripheral IV site blow in the middle of a fast contrast injection. My hand blew up like a balloon. They had to treat the blown site to reduce the swelling, but it was worth it for clear pictures and a diagnosis.

@@guillermoperez4164 beggars can't be choosers. Medically complex people often don't have any choice about IV access. I'm an incredibly "hard start" and typically get a PICC or CL when admitted, and have even had IO access a few times. Hundreds of hospital admissions take their toll. This particular time the ER Attending thought he was the "expert" in my body, and demanded a TINY, unstable peripheral line that I *knew* would blow. He was unwilling to wait
@kpl-CA

@@guillermoperez4164 there was no other viable choice for an IV site, my veins are destroyed. Typically I get a PICC line or CL (r IOS if in ER and critical) for long term IVs. But Radiology won't inject contrast in those lines, so they had to put a peripheral line where they could.

@kpl-CA sorry to hear that about your veins, but most of the picc lines are comparable to inject the iodine use for the tomography. At least where i work, they use them

@@guillermoperez4164 It is policy, but there's no research backing it. It is the same throughout our HC system, and at the regional Children's Hospitals too. Even with neonates. No indwelling ports either 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have tried, for years, to argue for not requiring an additional IV for patients, but nobody in Radiology can explain the "policy" or *why* they demand it. Nobody at the decision making level seems to care about the science. It absolutely annoys my colleagues to no end. It's funny how patient experiences are *always* questioned, second guessed, minimized, and treated as if patients are baseline "liars", stupid/illiterate, and patients can't possibly understand their own diagnosis or Medicine as well or better than someone who has never heard of that diagnosis. Even patients who ARE Physicians get the baseline "What could you possibly know" attitude. 🙄

I work with helicopter spraying for forest restoration, and the nozzles we use have basically 32 or 64 blunt end 10 gauge hypodermic needles in a ring to create a large spray drop size, and we had just gotten a package of new ones delivered to our hotel and we opened the box at the front desk training a new person about the nozzles, and the girls at the desk asked me what they were, and I told them they were for high volume IV injections... Lol This machine is EXACTLY what would be needed to use them! Look up Accu-Flo spray nozzles for pictures of the ultimate IV injection device, you can put a picture on your wall... ;)

@@nancysoppeland8929 So what if she is touching the equipment. Do you understand what gloves are even for? I never wore gloves when I was mixing IV medications unless there was a warning sticker on the medication to do so. Her "touching all the equipment" is not a threat to the patient in any way. Think about it. When I would go and change an IV bag hanging on a patient I never wore gloves. I never needed to. When I drew up morphine, or gravol or benadryl or what ever there is no need to wear gloves while doing so. The danger came for cross contamination when I broke the skin with the needle. THEN something could be transmitted to myself from the patient or from me to the patient hence the reason we wear gloves.

Because the fluid will run out
@jillsehn2398
@jillsehn2398 5 ай бұрын
Because the goal is to get rid of all the air in the tubing. If you push the fluid through with the tubes pointed down, you will end up with large air bubbles still in the chambers. It's dangerous to inject air into people. Turning the machine down at the end signals that the power injector is primed and safe for use.
