Oh I wanted to thank you for making this video. I have the Tan Tien and was thinking about buying the Icarus. I was always wondering how different they were from each other. i think they make the Icarus as an electric skateboard as well, can't wait to see what that's all about. I heard that these boards have Kevlar sandwiched within as well.

I have both and they are very different, the icarus is really about pumping and carving, the bounce and the flex is incredible and so is the way the feet are locked on the deck. The Tan Tien is more an all around sort of board

Leila Armas I’ve rode the tan tein before and I gotta say the Icarus is a lot better at carving and you feel more locked in with the Icarus but the tan tein is a very nice board

I mainly own normal Skateboards.^^ But I also have 2 Cruiser Boards (Globe Bantam ST camouflage and Globe Strange Rumblings) and an electrical Skateboard (Meepo Board 1.5 30"). The Icarus is my first 'real' Longboard. ;) Today I rode the Icarus around the lake and it's so much less tiring than riding a normal Skateboard long distances. xD I really like it so far.

Hi ..I am a beginner and looking to learn and eventually use a board for cruising /commuting ..and install a DIY electric conversion kit on it...I have the tan tien but tempted to get the Icarus as well. Do you think the Icarus is better for a learner ? or stick with the Tan Tien ?? How is the ride between the two as I will add an electric kit to one that's more stable and comfortable on the 'not so smooth' road ??

Icarus would be a bit too flexy for bombinv hills- you’d get speed wobbles. It’s a pump/carve/freestyle commuter. Tan Tien would be better on hills or the tesseract; stiffer, but you also want bigger wheels. Heaps of info on what each board is for is on loadeds website. I’m tossing up between icarus, fat tail and the new omakase with 75mm in heat wheels and 10inch trucks. I’m not gill bombing though ✌️

Hmm. I was pretty set on the Tan Tien, but then this video is making me want the Icarus instead. Are the kicks on the Icarus still good enough for basic tricks? I’m not really a trick guy at the moment but it’s always nice to have that option. Also, I always thought a flatter board made it easier to push, what’s the benefit of the concave in that aspect? Thanks!

@@alexsafayan7684 I went with the Icarus. I probably wouldn’t recommend following my footsteps though. In the past 3 years, I haven’t done a lot of longboard riding. If you plan on riding yours all the time and you get proficient at it, you might want those kick tails.

It depends on your weight per flex. I have a flex 3. It’s between 70 - 164 lbs I think. They’re for light weights. I weigh about 132 lbs.

They are very different but if you are looking for carving/pumping you will love the icarus. I have both of them but the icarus is like skating on clouds and the bounce on the pumping make it feel alive. The tan tien is flexy but you can’t lock the feet as you do on the icarus so to me is more an all arounder board for when I want to purely cruise as a longboard rather than pump/carve. More relaxed and chill let’s say. :)

Totally would recommend the Icarus!! but consider the length also... if you are going to be caring it around public transportation and around the city all day, I'd recommend a cruiser longboard which is the length of a skateboard but the benefits of longboard wheels and trucks, and the ease to maneuver around corners of side streets than a long longboard. But for first starting out to skate, it's def easier to gain balance and get used to a longer deck around 38". More stability. Lmk if you have any other questions or comments!!

Leila - I'm not much into pumping but into cruising long-distance, switching from roads to streetwalking areas, and freestyling. My current boarding style is all around and I am currently riding from Marrakech, Morocco where I ride a custom homemade foldable longboard which I love but this one misses some stiff side of it for when it comes to the Flex... I used to and still like very stiff boards (the same applies to my snowboard style where I exclusively aim for alpine snowboard decks in the French Alps). I'm currently at 74kgs for 1m79... When considering a Loaded board for cruising, pushing, long to very long distances around the city and even in the suburbs or countryside + a need to alternate freestyle and speedy rides (without considering downhill), alternating between hard roads and damaged sidewalks, shall I aim for the TAN TIEN Flex 1 or the ICARUS Flex 1? I wish to select one and later stick to this one (without switching to the other or keeping both) so any advice from you or anyone reading this comment would be great ...:)

Both are great but I have found I enjoy my tan tien the most. I think because I’ve used it a lot longer and just use to it. Have you heard of the Earthwing glider?? This has to be my fave board that is on the stiffer side and very light and great for transporting since it’s not has long as a tan tien or icarus

Also changing the wheels out for larger softer ones will make it a breeze on cracked pavement!! I highly suggest

If you are really into stiff decks I don’t think either of these are for you, flex 1 is still very flexible compared to other longboards. Unless if by stiff you meant flexible but on the stiffer end. There’s plenty of super stiff decks with almost no flex. Though for your kind of riding between various pavement types a flexy thing like the Icarus would traverse really well. Hope that helps :)

Hi Tom Thexton! I would recommend something more stiff, less flex, for downhill like an Earthwing. The icarus is pretty flexy and won’t offer as much stability at high speeds downhill. But it’s all preference!

Now about 4.5 years later, are you still riding these 2 boards, have you switched out any components like wheels, bearings, trucks, bushings, etc. or have you moved on to any new boards? Just curious how content you remain with these 2 particular boards.

I actually haven’t rode the icarus as much as I wanted since my video. Maybe because I’ve had the tan tien before the icarus and it is just my go to. I havent changed out anything since but im thinking of going with larger wheels. Do you own one? Thoughts?

Thanks for your reply, Leila. I'm a comeback skateboarder and I was initially drawn to the Arbor Flagship drop-through boards, so I started with their mid-length (32") Flagship Zeppelin. Before I stopped skateboarding, I tried one of my friend's board which had a lot of deck flex, which made it fun to ride and carve like crazy in corners. So, I started looking for drop-through longboards with this characteristic and found Loaded's Tan Tien and Icarus, so thanks for your comparison vid. Based on my reading so far, it sounds like the Icarus may be the better choice for me, if that cork bottom layer actually helps to mute some road vibration -- I want to get into long-distance longboarding.

@@LeilaArmas This is the problem with the tan tien I have a fair sized quiver and still reach for that particular board, loaded really hit the mark with that board and the funny thing when I first got it I hated it. I recently got a Tesseract (non basalt version) and paired that with some Randall R2s and this may become my favorite board. The only problem I have found with the tan tien is the flex affecting your ability to ollie (it soaks up the pop) and when I do any tail work I have had my foot fall off the end and done the splits unexpectedly (this is where I do like top mounts as there is often more board real estate to stand on and to land on)

@@FlowJunkie65 You should look at the loaded vanguard that board is so flexible that the flexibility soaks up vibration, only problem is there is no kicktail (I mean you can but it is a tiny bit of the board) and it is longer so the carving is more mellow and little bit less energetic.

I can understand the larger wheels I put 76mm on and they made the front heavy for me for curb drops etc probably just needed more experience with them. I found my stimulus to be fine and no problem what I would like to do is move from 180mm to either 165mm or 150mm trucks. I did try 150mm and did get wheelbite with the wheels I tried. I put the 150mm on my vanguard and that made that board a much better board than when it is on 180mm.

Avery Cordova oh I could go on for days. The biggest issue is fiberglass flaking off making hit difficult to carry up hills. The Icarus scrapes much easier.
