I cant believe some are rolling so much coal. Am i missing something? They are throwing power out the window with too little air and skyrocketing EGT.

I believe they overfuel as insurance for the engine. Imagine how much boost and load these things generate when snatching a fully-loaded B-train, throwing the fuel probably ensures it doesn't lean out and melt $100000 worth of competition truck engine. I noticed that many ran significantly cleaner when they weren't wastegating...I dunno, just an old gas hotrodder myself 🤔

Higher combustion temperatures, which can increase wear on engine components over time. Increased particulate matter emissions due to incomplete combustion. Potential for increased engine knocking or instability. Seems the first two would be primary reasons these race trucks run sooo overfuelled

@@movinmetal2596 I'm not sure that quote is correct. Particulate should be lower with less fuel for one. Adding air isn't adding particulate matter. I'm honestly going to defer to things I've learned from gale banks. He knows exactly what hes talking about and has definitely been on the Dyno more than most guys telling tales of what does what. I'm just fairly certain more air will make more power with all that fuel puking out. Watch some of the trucks that are a much less dense grey smoke that win most of the time. The tune is closer.

If you go richer than 14.9 with a diesel, egts go down. Pullers run about 10 afr

What is the weight on the trailers? For all the years of these trucks running up that hill. I'm surprised that they haven't widened the road a couple feet on both sides. Because that's some hairy shit for how close they are at times.
