20Jun2018. I just installed the Boonedox Sand Tires n it has been a blessing to launch n load with the TBone also. No more getting wet when it's cold, waiting for everyone for hrs on weekends just to go fish. I park my truck, 96% of gear is loaded, roll down to edge of launch site no one can use with boats n bypass the long wait time. I have had so many folks tell me that I am the smartest fisherman they know. Not boasting, just nice to launch easily n get fishing ASAP. I also installed a Mantis n Scottys Outriggers as I have balance issues at my age. I want to fish not go swimming.

I have a Torqeedo 403 also, helps allot after a full day of fishing n winds. I can twin up with wife's PA14 n cruise into the wind effortlessly. It has also saved our lives twice too. The wheels kit ect has allowed me to fish by myself even on busy weekends, an love the outriggers. I tried the Hobie sucker holes n it way too much hassle n pain to load n unload ect, make fishing a pleasure folks. I did everything without weakening my hull with too many holes ect. It's only money guys, I don't drink so I have funds for my Yak. My 2000 JetCraft hasn't been in water for 8 yrs, but when my boys were younger, we boated every weekend.

New subscriber here. Very helpful video. I found this video because I am looking to get into a hobie kayak and I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for what I may be getting into. Also helpful because my vehicle is a Tundra and I was wondering if I'll need a bed extender like yours.
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 5 жыл бұрын
Hi +A. Zuma, my has the Tundra is a 6.5’ bed and the tailgate down ads another 2.5ish feet. I don’t use the bed extender on my local commutes. The one thing I do recommend getting is the backyard plastic rug from Costco. They come in green and gray. It’s going to protect your kayak from scrapes and since it’s plastic on plastic it will slide right in. Thanks for subscribing. Welcome to the community.

Nice very informative video for new comers to hobie pa14. I have so much gear, it takes half an hour setting up and it's so heavy you break your back tilting it. I bought boondox landing gear with new pa14 over 18 month ago and pulled very rough terrains. It's still solid. I'd say there is equal amount of damaged kayaks using scupper holes. Install it properly you shouldn't have any problems. I have first edition 180 mirage drive dont have any issue but silly uses break the cord. Dumb users. If you are old like me 50's boondox is a winner.. love kayak ocean fishing from down under Australia. Love your video uploads, brothers from USA.

Great video bud. I originally wanted the new outback but the new pa14 360 looks so awesome. I too have a shortened tundra. Do you have any issues with the Pa14 sticking out that much? Considering a PA12 just to fit better. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi +TacMonk, my truck bed is 6.5'. With the tailgate down its about 8.5-9' of loading area. This is more than enough and I have not had problems with the law. You just have to make sure and put a safety flag. I bought that BoonDox T-Bone but I dont use it anymore. If you have the 5.5' bed then maybe the t-bone would be a good option to give the kayak support. Everyone that I know that got the 12' because of transport concerns ends up regretting they just didint get the 14'. Regarding the 360 drive I dont see the real world application. For me the 180 drive (forward and reverse) is enough. A hobie pa 14 (2017 - 2019) that come with a 180 drive would be a better deal then the 360 pa 12 or 14 (2020). I hope this helps. Good luck!

You state you are storing your kayak on PVC pipes. I just bought a Pro Angler 14 and the instruction book specifically states not to store on PVC. It doesn't explain why. What gives? Not sure why Hobie is against PVC. Thank you.
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 4 жыл бұрын
Hobie wants you to store it upside down with the cross bars against the top rail of the yak. Its the strongest part of the yak and it is less likely to conform to the curve of the storage rack. Basically if you store it on PVC pipes you run the risk of your hulls deforming to the shape of your PVC pipes. I use shipping tubes. They are thinner than PVC and have more give. Also, ambient temperature is to be considered too. On super hot days you are probably better off turning the PVC pipes sideways and flipping the PA. Hope that helps.

Too bad Hobie and Boondox won't get together on this so it would benefit their customers. If nothing else it could be an added option Hobie could charge for. Still dreaming for this kayak though. Great advice and video! 😀

That's a great point. It's all business. They probably cant make something to similar to the Landing Gear now that Boondox came out with it. I dreamed of this yak for a few years and had to save up for it. Totally worth it though. Love fishing on it. I should probably do a review video now that i've owned it for a bit. Thanks for watching!

HI +JLC JLC, It's a patio matt made from recycled bottles from the patio section at Costco. It costs about $16 but its perfect for the truck bed. Its plastic so the kayak slides right on and it protects the hull from getting scraped up.

How long is your truck bed and how long is the extender. Is that a PA14
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 5 жыл бұрын
Hi MD, the bed is 6.5 feet but with the tailgate down it ends up being about 8.5 to 9 feet of truck. Now days I don’t even use the T-Bone. I’m on a PA 14 and as long as there is a flag on it, it seems ok. I haven’t been pulled over for it. I’m going to do an update video soon to show how I’m loading up these days. Are you on a pa14? Do you wholeheartedly recommend the Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayak for inshore and offshore saltwater fishing? I live in Florida.
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Santiago! Short answer YES. Long answer YES if you already know you love kayak fishing. If you are totally new to it go out a few times in a rental or borrow. if you know Kayak Fishing is your thing then the PA14 is an excellent platform. I have no regrets. Before you get it consider how you will be transporting it and where you will store it. It's a big boat. It can be handled by one person if you have a cart but it is wide. If you have any other questions let me know. Also for the sake of transperancy: I'm not affiliated with Hobie and I purchased my HPA14 with my own money.

Hi +310.Outdoors, Its a 6.5' bed. I got the double cab with the rear 3/4 doors so I could get the 6.5' bed. The tailgate down ads about 2' extension. It's long enough that most of the time I dont even use the T-BONE. Hope that helps.

I’ve got a Tacoma with the 5.5 bed. Do you think a bed extender would support a Pa 14. Or should I consider a trailer
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The tailgate extends the bed another 2' or so. I would go with a bed extender. A lot of guys that fish KBF around here use bed extenders. A trailer also comes with ongoing expense for registration and insurance.

Is the pad on your truck extender the Boonedox T-BONE / YAK-BONE PAD? When checking to purchase the extender it appears to be sold as a bare bar with no padding. Thank you for sharing your setup.
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Darlene, great question. I totally missed going over that. It is an old kayak/surf board cross bar pad. It is designed for a rack cross bar but I stretched it out and zip tied it to the T-Bone. A pool noodle with zip ties would work too. The cross bar pad is basically a pool noodle enclosed in a canvas bag so it won't fall apart so fast. Here is what one similar to the one I used in the video. Roof Rack Pad - amzn.to/2L2KGhq
