In the 1970's I worked with a retired Marine drill sergant Named "Wimpy" and was instructed how to properly run,safely clear jams,separate known good from dunnos,we cast bullets by the ton,and cranked out reloads for three PD's practice wadcutters and 12ga training loads. I got to spend some quality time waiting and learning at Star Machine. I was so mesmerized by the flapper belt shop they had to nudge me more than once . OUUUHHH RAHHH SEMPER FI MARINE ! YOUR SERVICE IS REMEMBERED!! .........Mark,the long haired shooter that worked with you for years.

A great classic press. Only complete ones I have seen for sale were $2k. A Star is one my bucket list.

Probably the coolest thing about the star is that you can load with a great press for as long as you want, and as long as you keep good care of it you can resell it for the same , if not more than what you paid!

I've always wanted one of these.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I don't know if it'd be faster than my Lee turret press, but it'd be awesome to reload on something like that. Got to love classic American workmanship.

I guess I should make a note that the squeaking as the handle is dropped has been fixed since this video, we lubed all the contacts of the press and that solved the problem, so it will continue to go strong for many more years!

I was recently given a Star Progressive Press from a friend that had passed away. This is my first press and I'm looking forward to getting it setup and start reloading. I do thank you for the videos on helping to show me how to set it up for .45 ACP. However, out of everything that I've read and all of the videos that I've watched, I cannot find anything to tell me if this press also crimps the round after the bullet has been seated or not. Do I have to purchase a second press to be set up just for crimping the round? Or does the press also crimp after the bullet has been seated?

you could use an RCBS die that crimps and seats at the same time

The bullet is crimped, you see him place the lead bullet into the brass every time he advances the rotary table. Why would an auto press not crimp? this is an all in one press!

You can find a star by writing to: R. Bruce Williams 339 Greens Ridge Road Stewartsville, NJ 08886. I just bought a refurbished Universal from him. It's nice and I've used Stars since 1975. Love the and they're FAST! Strongly suggest you don't load 9mm on them. I've had 2 or 3 Stars over the years, because in the Cooper/early IPSC days we used to burn 2-3000 rounds of .45 a month.

My 38 spl has adjustment on the grain of powder and mine has a auto loader on the shells .. How do you change the load on the powder on the 45 mine just says 3.5 grain and no adjustment thanks ..
@Firearmsforall11 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the charge bar on your .45 head is not adjustable, most charge bars for the star are simply a piece of solid brass with a hole drilled in it to drop a specific weight of powder. You could always just put the adjustable charge bar from your .38 head in the housing on your .45 head.

You need a powder slide that takes inserts to change the powder charge. It's what I use. Write to the guy I listed about.

My machine allows the finished cartridge to fall through a hole into a container under the press without touching it..
