People ask how many locs you have because it determines how big or small they want their locs to be. The less locs you have, the thicker they will be and the more you have the smaller they will be. I know that before I got my locs I always asked people how many locs did they have because I wanted an example of the range / number that I should stay in for my desired look. Ohhh ok that actually does make sense🤔So it’s more so for context. The only thing is considering a person’s hair texture is also important. 97 for me can look way different on someone else. I get it tho, the visual is helpful. Are u happy with your locs now?

Yep!! I have 65 and ppl always think it’s more bcuz I have dense hair but my strands are fine, so to me they don’t look as full as I want them yet..

This might be a li'l different from some of the other comments, but some people would like a specific number of locs because the number might be significant to them, so they look at people with a similar hair texture and density as them to see what that number might look like. This is super hypothetical, but there might be someone who wants *exactly* 108 locs because they want to meditate with their locs like a mala or something whenever they retwist. I don't know anyone who does this, but it sounds pretty cool, now that I think about it. 😄

Welllll 😊 I ask because I plan on starting locs. And I know how I want my locs to look. So when I see people with the size and thickness I want, I ask how many they have to get a rough estimate. Now I know hair texture and density has to be accounted for, but you notice patterns after a while. So on KZbin I appreciate when people count their locs in videos. Btw your hair is gorgeous!

Knowing someone else's loc count doesnt help at all unless you have the exact same size head, same hairline/forehead, same hair density, & same strand size.... 2 ppl with the same loc count are most likely not going to have same loc size.

I think people ask for clarity. I know when I went to my consultation the Loctician told me I’ll get 80 locs. 🤔 And for someone that has worn braids in the past, 80 locs don’t sound like a lot. Therefore, by finding out how many locs other people have, I can get an idea of how full or how skimpy 80 locs can look.

I just started following you today and I hot 5 months on ny loc journey yesterday. I think people ask this question to make sure they are choosing a size or number that fits what they like. I have 52 locs. I didn't choose that number before i did it but I knew I wanted bigger locs and I just ended up with 52. I like your locs but that number wouldn't have worked for me because I have fine hair and I understood that. Your hair is beautiful and I hope mine ends up being as beautiful as I get deeper into my journey

I would have guessed you had more... 🤷🏾‍♀️ Some people ask for the same reason they obsess over length... for some reason, it matters 🙏🏾 I think people loc their hair for different reason, those that loc it strictly for a fashion statement, will have a different focus and conversation about them... those that are intentional and loc their hair as another aspect of their Spiritual Journey, don’t even focus on stuff like that... and some see a persons density and grade and gage what their hair “might look like” if they have the same amount🙏🏾
