A neighbor's house got struck by lightning while they where asleep and had a fire smoldering in their attic the entire night until someone walking their dog saw smoke in the morning. If you're willing to spend a little more you can invest a few hundred in to a whole set of battery powered WiFi smoke alarms and install them everywhere - including your attic or crawlspace. If a fire starts in one of those places you'll know about it much faster as well as having the benefit of getting notified if you are away and being able to share these alerts with family or neighbors.
