When traffic fines to to the local police dept., the more people they harass, the more money they make. More money = more police, higher pay. More police = more harassment, more dubious stops. Civil Asset Forfeiture, where they just declare your money guilty and steal it, is actually law and the local department keeps the cash/car/house/whatever. This is organized crime pretending to be a police department. INSTEAD: fines, forfeitures go to State and Fed level. Incentives disappear, policing improves.

It was definitely great that she responded to the call so quickly and much respect and admiration to her. I also want to point out that if this young man's soft spoken, well thought out answers and retelling of what happened are how he interacted with the officers, he definitely deserves recognition for staying calm and possibly saving himself from harm. Nothing like a good young man who's learned from his past and is trying to make a better future for him and his family. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Bad things are always going to happen no matter how many good people are in the world, which is why we, in theory, have entities such as "police" to sow peace. Unfortunately, most of them and their departments are corrupt and I'd wager 50% of non-rookie active police could be charged and convicted, right now, and get at least 3 years in prison based on something they've done in their career up to this point. We have given them too much latitude and now, like everything in society, we will swing back hard the other way and regrettably punish actual good cops, until the pendulum comes back, rinse and repeat...

Based on the fact that he said he indicated before making the turn, the lawyer should subpoena the dash cam footage, and if he did indicate, she should sue them for racial profiling, false arrest, kidnapping, and fourth amendment violations inflicted on her client, if she truly wants to help and to make a difference. If he indicated they had no probable cause to pull him over making all of their actions illegal.

@@jaykline8550 My points are 1) She should have sued the department. (Possibly he was afraid to sue them because of the likely retaliation period could mot afford it. 2) The prosecutor should have charged the cops with racial profiling, false arrest kidnapping and violation of rights.3) If it made it to court the judge should have thrown the prosecutor in jail for contempt of court, for attempting to use the courts to help corrupt cops in a criminal enterprise.

My sons were profiled like that because their car looked pretty bad. The police were pulling them over weekly, literally. They ended up having to pay thousands in fines, etc. This town has tons of meth and pill heads. My sons were not either of those but were simply poor. The justice system makes me sick. I'm beginning to see the 'defund the police' effort in a whole new light!

This is what a lawyer should be, looking out for people in their community, protecting them from unlawful actions. Most people in this situation would be arrested, taken to jail, processed and usually they wouldn't be able to bond out because they can't afford it let alone getting an actual attorney that would defend them instead of one appointed by the state that doesn't give a crap about you.
